For what it is worth... .

I made about 5 pulls yesterday on a Dynojet dyno... .

The only things I have done to my truck since the last dyno run in December is set my timing to 16. 5° BTDC, install Piers' 3K GSK, and put on a BHAF... . that's it!

Dec. = 258. 6HP and a very odd HP graph... .

May = 271. 1HP(671. 1 ft. /lbs. ) with a VERY flat HP graph and 500ft. /lbs. at 2800rpm... .

I knew the springs made a difference... . but since I did timing and the BHAF... . you can make your own conclusions... .

i was told by a mechanic to set my timing up after i had my new transmission installed and my #5 plate. however when i talked to the mechanic that i was goign ot have set the timing up he said that he never noticed a difference when he advanced the timing and also he said that if advanced to far can really decrease the durability of the engine. i can see that in your case it did help out on horsepower, i am still debating on wether to get it advanced or not.

My vote is

10. 0 hp from the GSK

2. 5 hp from the Timing

---------------

12. 5 hp increase

BHAF, increase spool-up, lower smoke, lower EGTs, no HP

Timing more top end, less bottom end, all very slight, more rattle

GSK, yee haa

I agree... .

The SOTP meter was showing improvement after the GSK..... it didn't show a dern thing after the timing.

About the only thing that advancing the timing did was to darn near eliminate the 3krpm popping that I used to get... . and it runs a lot smoother when it's cold... not to mention - more noise!!

When I put more fuel to her... . the timing will help out a lot... .

The soot didn't really decrease much after the BHAF... . spool is only slightly better... if any... it's mostly psychological... . anytime you spend $$... you just *HOPE* that it does something... .

At least I made more HP... . it was about 38°F last time and about 65°F this time... so I was working against the heat too... . (not a huge handicap... )

I just dynoed at DD/MM and had 294 HP at 2550 RPM and 670 ft-lb at 2150 RPM. Two years ago I dynoed at 250 HP at 2500 RPM at BD. The BD setup included a #8 (230/605) plate and 215 injectors. In the last two years the exhaust was opened up to 3 inch flow through, a MHAF installed, and a Piers 3000 RPM GSK was installed.

Exhaust temperatures have been reduced from 850 post turbo to 700 post turbo maximum with 30 lbs boost towing. The exhaust temperature drop is attributed to opening up the exhaust and the MHAF.

The 44 HP increase is attributed to 40 HP for the GSK and 4 HP for the exhaust and filter. When I analyzed the dyno data, it appears that the GSK does not increase the maximum torque (same fueling per pump stroke) but stretches out and shifts to higher RPM the torque curve. The 294 HP at 2550 RPM is equivalent to 604 ft-lbs. The 3000 RPM GSK gave me 400-500 more RPM and appears to have left the maximum torque at 1600 RPM the same.

I used to have 250 HP at 2400-2500 RPM, I now have greater than 250 HP from 1900 to 2900 RPM. The power used to be in the toilet after 2600 RPM, now it pulls to 2950 RPM.

The Piers GSK is the best performance investment for towing I have seen. The GSK protects the transmission/clutch by not increasing torque and gives you increased HP at higher RPM. The RPM increase fills the hole between 3rd and OD.
