new engine from dodge, now it runs like crap unless it has the Smarty on it.

My buddy had a new engine put in by dodge in his 04. 5 with 40K on it. #6 injector went out and burned the piston. Took them 4 months by the way which I guess is normal. But anyway. The truck runs aweful. no smoke or rough idle. It just defuels hard on and off. It won't even pull a hill without a trailer. It gives Map sensor code and boost sensor code, but dodge says they are good. Were gonna replace them anyway, but the weird part is that I installed a smarty on it and it runs fine. Just like any other truck with a smarty. I understand that its fooling the sensors to some degree, but it looks like if they were bad, it would still do it. Any ideas?

Does the Smarty go in-line of any of the sensors? If yes then I would bet it's one of those sensors. It runs smooth with the Smarty because it's reinterpretating whatever signal is normally present anyway and providing it's own.

Smarty is a programmer it doesnt plug into anthing but the diagnostic port. It sounds like a reflash is in order for the ECM.
