Hello all I previously posted under my fathers user name edgeman. My previous post was a question with the new engine I just bought and put in my truck. I have some questions on throttle cable hook up for it and I was wondering if any users on here have done this or have ran into this. I am trying to get the truck running by this weekend. The engine is out of a 93 and has the VE pump on it and I want to hook my 97 throttle cables to it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Andrew. Oo. :-laf:confused:

Can of worms. The 2 are different systems. Get creative

Curiosity has taken hold of me. Why didn't you put the p-pump from the '97 onto the '93 engine?

I left the p-pump off because I am going to have it gone through one of these days and beef it up a little bit. Plus we are getting hammered with snow right now and this truck is one of the only ways to keep the snow out of the drive way. Just a time thing. I am going to eventually put it on but I don't know how far the fragments of my piston traveled through the oil system. That's why.

I doubt if any fragments went past the filter. If they did there isn't much point in a filtration system is there? You do know that you will have to also replace the p-pump gear when you do install the pump, right? I'm thinking the cams are different also.

True. I am just trying to get the truck back on the road and not have the huge issues I had last time. Also I am just being cautious because this will become my daily driver and I need it dependable to go to Military Schools and travel for work. So I am hoping with all the stuff that I have coming up I will just be super cautious. The front gear case didn't seeam any heavier to me but maybe it is. Anywho I am going to keep all the parts on the old engine. Camshaft, P-Pump, Gearcase, Injection pump gear so on and so forth. I am planning on selling the block so if you know anybody you may want to buy a plain block and rebuild it let me know.

I think the front gear case is heavier on the p-pump??

I forgot about that. The gearcase is different, so it will have to be changed also. The studs are spaced differently and the hole is different as well. The good news is since the cam needs to be changed anyway, the case is only a few more bolts. Might as well get a PDR quickspool cam while you are at it. Better mileage and lower EGTs. I can testify to that.

Well an update to the truck rebuild. The engine is in and running great! But I didn't expect any difference with a Cummins that has 100,000 miles on it. I did get a pin hole in a freeze plug but used one out of my old block and it does not seem to be leaking coolant anymore. There is a little oil leak coming from the oil line that goes from the block to the Vaccum pump and it is coming from the fitting that hooks to the vaccum pump. I tried tightening it down but it seems to still leak. The enging is strong and doesn't miss a beat. I am glad to have my diesel back. It has been a long time since it has ran good and dependable. Thanks TDR Members for all of your input on this project! I really do appreciate it!
