Bush a Nazi?

Anyone hear of the new engine horsepower and torque specs coming for 2005? I heard today some talk about 350+ hp and 600+ ft lbs of torque from the factory. They want to stomp FoMoCo and GM in the power arena. Now, if this is true, what is the transmission going to be? I have to wonder as in no way will it be an Allison. Allison will not make it into a Dodge period.

Anyone hear any news to this regard?

Yeah!

Definitely sounds do-able based on the increases we see year after year. I sure hope it's NOT another beefing up of the 47/48 RE for the sake of the Dodge/Cummins reputation.

Well, it will be the 47rfe. DC put a TON of $$$ into designing it. It was supposed to be out in 98. 5, but it didnt make it and they kept dumping cash till they got it right for 03. 5. After all of that $$, they wont goto a new one in 2 years.

The new trans is called the 48re. I have read that in it's current form it can handle about 400hp. I am sure a beefier TC will be needed though.

I've heard the same rumors of the Dura smack, major hp/tq improvements in '05. Likely the 6. 0 will follow suit, if they can get it to run. :D

We all know the Cummins will hold up to the uprated power. What we don't know is if the 6. 6L and 6. 0L will hold up as well or for as long. I think that is the question Dodge and Cummins wants answered

Probably mid-year the Duramax is getting a new variable outlet turbo and a power boost. Don't know what the new numbers are going to be but probably somewhere in the 320-350 and 560-575 realm. Wondering if they have the turbo thing figured out. From what I remember, the scuttlebut was that the housing and/or outlet on the exhaust side of the turbo will be electronically adjustabe to allow for spooling similar to the 6. 0 VVT. We'll see. Personally I'm sticking with Cummins power. Can't beat a proven design.

Diesel HP/TQ wars

This is cool. Reminds me of the musclecar wars of the 60s and early 70s. The major contenders keep coming out with more power every year. It just gets better for all of us whether we own a GM, Ford or Dodge. Even with the tightening emissions regulations the power keeps going up and up. :D

The emissions regs of the early 70's are what killed the musclecar war of that era but it is having no major effect on diesels. . yet.

Time will tell though, with the new "tier" of standards that need to be met soon. Next big thing will be low-sulfur diesel which will definitely slow down the progress but not set it back. Once there is low-sulfur available everywhere in the US, then some of the big power Euro diesels, like the VW diesel V10, will be hitting the shores. The 2004 models will not have a particulate trap because the sulfur content of diesel fuel is too high in the US.

Low-sulfur diesel fuel with 15 parts per million, down from the current 300 ppm, will be required by law in fall 2006.

Low-sulfur fuel is the key to widespread use of diesel engines in cars and light trucks in the United States.

The VW Touareg will have over 300HP/550 Ft Lbs!
