North East Let's Rock The House! ..... HOOTERS!

Hey all,

I talked with George yesterday, and it's official, he's stepping down as fearless leader. He gave me permission to let you all know.

I guess this means we need to find a new spokesperson/leader. What do you all want to do? Should we have another election, or do we appoint someone, or what? If I recall correctly, there are no rules in this rag-tag bunch of misfits, so it's an open field. Personally, I go with another election, but if you want to perform a military coup, I'll go along with that.

Shall we discuss it here, and make the decision at Hooters?

MTE

Simple question. Simple answer.

Not everyone is registered on the website you created. It would be better if anyone who considers themselves affiliated with the NETDP could contribute freely, as in, already registered here. The 'exposure' is just fine here, if not better

The last time we discussed this, the group voted down the idea to have our own website because it was going to cost money and we wanted to stay a 'dues free' club. Has anyone asked you what the website is going to cost yet Tim?

We should also discuss whether we want our own website in the first place, but I think that' s another thread and another discussion.

Matt

BTW, it looks nice Tim!

Not all of the group is from the TDR. Many members are from OTHER sitesand are going to need see this to be a part of it ..... that's why I brought exp. to the table. BTW the site is free ;)

Tim,

You're right, not all the members are from the TDR, just the vast majority of them. Those that aren't know someone who is, so if it's that important for them to post, someone can do it for them. The election isn't here, just the disscussion until we can meet at Hooters. If it's that important, they can be there on the 29th and really air the laundry then.

This is where most of us expect to get the news, and officially, I'm supposed to be the guy to send the email. So I'd really like to have the main thread here.

Now, before your website becomes our official clubhouse, don't you think it would be a good idea to ask the club if that's what they want?

What do you mean by free? Do you mean that registration is free, or the maintenance of the website is free? No one gives up webspace, server time, and database access for nothing, what's the catch?

As the last remaining officer of the club, it would be inappropriate for me to nominate anyone. Can we move onto the business of nominating people for the job(s) of running things? We can have formal nominations at Hooters, but lets find out who we want for the job and who is willing to accept a position.

And the catch? Come on, man. You have a thread on the TDR about your website. Let's go talk about it there. Let's talk about an upcoming election here. Please?

No problem... just trying to keep the thread on topic. I already posted my question on the thread you started regarding the website.

Again, who wants the job, who would like to nominate someone?

I don't want to appear ignorant but who is George. I have only been to one event and have not met everybody yet. As far as an election goes, I still don't know who's who so it might be difficult for some of the newer members of this region to vote in the right direction or in the best interest of the club.

Bob, I'm hurt, really, really hurt. I spent so much time on your truck putting in your gauges, and you can't even remember my name:confused: :rolleyes: :{

Back to the topic.

To everyone in the club... ..... I felt it best to stand down, as I don't have enough time to devote to the club for what I feel is required. I don't think it is fair to everyone involved to hold on to a title that I can't support. Thanks for your understanding.

Personal opinions on the club:

- there are far more members than I ever anticipated, everyone having ideas on what they would like (wether voiced or not)

- Maybe having small yealry dues may not be a bad idea, this should be discussed again.

- I think there needs to be at least 3-4 people that handle the club activities (call them what you want)

- anyone interested should mention so, and what they are interested in doing. Pres. vice pres. jokester, whatever.

I have re-thought many of my original views, based on the last years experience. I have gone to many club sites to see what's out there. Now, I feel that a website is a good idea. It can keep club business away from an open site such as this.

I hope this make sense, and doesn't offend anyone.

If you have any ideas on what YOU want out of the club, now would be the time to voice them. Give suggestions.

Be safe

George... ... ... ... . (or in BigDig's case, the guy that put his gages in:D )

I think we should have another meeting/get together/wrench day. There we could drink beer, wrench, eat, and I guess we could attend to the political stuff. Lets not Get carried away with personal feelings or anything. JES (Spence) summed it up perfectly when he said "...come on guys, let's not forget we are just twelve guys in a garage"

I nominate myself to be the "jokester"!

Discussion of formalities should be offline... . and if everyone's not there in person... then they can't have any say in how it goes.

I agree with Jeff/JES... we are a bunch of guys in a garage... . but having a bone-fide club has its benefits.

I agree with MTE too..... free hosting, or unlimited bandwidth is nothing but a hoax... . been there, done that.

The new site is cool too... . :D

My thoughts: Lets keep it as simple as possible. So far the events have gone well, advertisement and organizing seems to have worked well via the discussion on the boards. If we have a "fearless leader" an e-mail jockey and may one other helper type elected over a few beers by those in attandance at a get together we should get by. The elected "officials" primarily could be the ones to make the phone calls such as reservations for 30 at hooters, ask Scott if he will sponsor another wrench day, reserve dyno time etc... Take care of keeping an updated e-mail and name list and call it a club.

I belong to a regional Jeep club that is primarily into hard core trail riding with well built Jeeps. This club has a Pres, Secratary, Tresurer, Board of directors, bylaws and 100+ members. Over the last 10-15 years 3 other clubs have spun off of this one due to primarily politics. I have seen many members quit due to the politics and internal fighting. It can quickly turn something you enjoy into something you resent. On the other hand the club does for the most part run fairly smooth and we have 10 trailrides a year. Several of them are weekend events including camping. Every august we take over half of a campground and have a two day trailfest with a very nicely catered barbeque / pig roast.

The simpler we keep it the easier it will be. I support the other discussion forum since it is 1. Free and 2. we do have folks in the group that are not TDR members, and 3. The TDR is a mostly Dodge forum and we have people who drive Fords, Chevys, and little yellow bubble looking things.

As far as elections go, they can be done via e-mail that way everyone gets a vote, I will bet money that less than half of those affiliated with the group vote. Or whoever can make the next event Hooters, or a future Wrench day have a quick vote. We all know its impossible to get every member in the same place at the same time.

Off the soap box I go, let the flames begin:)

Thats my . 02 cents and I expect change!:p

Mark,

I'd say that's a pretty good assessment of where things stand. To add to that, activities pretty much center around two groups of people, the CT crowd and the MA crowd with TMTT and massdiesel at their centers, respectively. I view my job as a point of contact for anyone who wants to have an event--it's up to me to email everyone and/or start a thread on the TDR. This leaves things as open as possible, anyone who wants an event can sponsor it, anyone who wants to come can.

Usually the person wanting the event takes the lead in making reservations, etc.

I'll tell you one thing that's on my mind. We collect cash on wrench days and dyno days to offset the cost of burgers and such, the surplus if there is any, goes into the bank account. George (Batman) has the money and is about the only person who knows how much. I'd like to see this moved into an account of its own, and have someone take responsibility for keeping track of it. George? Care to tell us what we have in the bank?

Matt

Don't know off hand, never put it in an account... ... ... it's in a shoeobox. all that is there is what was collected from the raffle somewhere between $200-$300. not sure exactly. I'll give it to you next time I see you or I can mail a check. let me know.

Okay, well it's the club's money. Let's decide what we want to do with it first. If you can count that high :D could you find out how much we have and report back? Quick reply, thanks.

Typing and reading causes allot of confusion (at least to me).

I think most of this needs to be discussed in person before things are taken out of context.

How about making a decision to have everyone that wants a say either go to the Hooters meet or dinner or something and have that be the only topic... ... ... ... ... club discussion/meeting?

If there is a wrench/dyno/race/anything event... ... ..... no club discussion will happen, just not enough time. A meeting is the only way to proceed IMHO

Just a thought.

Right, I agree that the final discussion and voting should probably be done in person, but I like the idea of having a mail in vote if we want to get as many folks included as possible.

I really only intend to get as much info and discussion as practical right here on this thread before we move over to a face to face meeting. I suggest the Hooters meet be an excellent place to have a meeting/vote.

For example, the Democrats are announcing that they will be running in the upcoming presidential election, what some 18 months in advance? Why not start talking about who should take the Fearless Leader position? Would anyone like to suggest someone to take the job? Or is that too personal to be discussed online?

What does everyone else think?

I think That is a really great time to have a meeting (hooters).

Matt, Are we looking for Just a Fearless Leader, Or are we also going to start thinking ahead for ALL positions? Actually what Positions do we need?

Fearless one , Treasurer , Spokesman (You) , Area Reps ... ?? (Low on priority) ... Events CoOrdinator.

Or am I getting Ahead, Didn't read enough  Hate it when that happens (Trying to squeeze a post in on a shortened lunch). Also From the Raffle at the Seafood Challenge there is 215. 00 in the kitty set aside from that alone. (After all payouts from reciepts that day pertaining to the meet) God we need another SF Challenge bad how good was that?

So Now it's official MTE IS the spokeman on events (I honestly did not know that ... ..... My Bad on the Hooters thingy)
