I'll accept, but I'd prefer to stay with the job I already have, Capt. Email. If someone would like to nominate me, I'll accept that.

That's ok. I nominated you like you asked me to so you can have that green '03 delivered to my house any time as we arranged. :D

I am really confused ... . TqT accepted before From previous Nominations

 Just getting stuff straight 'tiz all

I'll clarify.

There's nothing in the rules that we don't have that says a position is voted in for life, in fact we don't even have a term of office. Do we need a term of office? That is open for discussion.

The point is, I am not assuming that I am to continue in my office as Capt Email. If I am to keep the job, I think the right thing to do is resign my office and have an open election for the job. It seems like the fair and honest thing to do.

To be honest, I'm debating whether or not I want any official postion in this club. It would be nice to just show up and have fun for a change.

Jay, I know you're joking, but that just isn't funny

:{ WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!

OK so I'm a little slow reading some posts, what's going on here. Sounds like after some wrenching in HOOTERS parking lot and a few cocktails inside with the fine HOOTERS ladies,we need to sit down and have what the military calls "Commanders Time" . Take the guys who have been around a while and sit them down to talk about who to elect for what while the others wrench-party passing around the beer bong:D And BATMAN-hope you didn't mean me about not knowing your name,I posted a thank you to WHO EVER TAPPED MY MANIFOLD,you did the gauges,remember-or where your tights to tight:-laf . . And Figgy. . "HOOTERS is not the place"-"good atmosphere"-stay focused" Hmmmmmmm those phrases just don't go together!!!!stare at Your girl for a moment, and tell me you can't stay focused:--) :--)

WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!

I totally agree!! If one is having issues with another, PLEASE!!! send a PM or an e-mail, exchange phone numbers and settle whatever is causing friction. Don't clutter up this thread, the tension is being sensed by our own group as well as others reading this. NOT GOOD GUYS!!!!

I would like to see this thread pulled and start fresh!

BIGDIG... The success of this group depends on ALL OF US, not just those elected to hold some title as an officer.

It has been said that once the wrenches get turnin, and the food starts cookin, that it just isn't a good time to have a meeting. I disagree... if someone has something to say, stand up and make an announcement, I think everyone would stop for a few minutes to have a discussion.

Tqt... Stepping off the soap box... I need a beer :)

Yep I agree. Lets package this up and sink it.

Let's face it animocity is the fuel of disruption, And in this case when feelings and emotions and sarchasm cannot be displayed in a text form then it's best saved for HUMAN interaction in a LIVE format.

Look at the View #'s on this thread ... ..... this thing when looked from the outside can look a bit childish at best..... Although good points have been made and a consious effort to conduct biz ..... we just can't do it here.

I need my Blankie. #ad

TORQUE THIS--we're kinda on the same page here but thats just my 2 cents. Tried to help out... ... . I'm getting off work in 15min,gonna go chug a few beers. hope we can work this all out. Other members must think we're a bunch of misfits... When I get to know you all better I'll speak my mind. thats how I am, I just say whats on my mind,so enough:-{} lets just have a good time at the next meet and not scare off any potential new members like my friend Chris(GORILLA)you all met him--He likes that name:D Anyways, enough said... . nighty-night

I am a member of another "New England Club" and believe it or not that club is going through the exact same thing. Members want to do other things within the organization or just step aside completely. We are having a meeting at members house to discuss the situation and put it all to rest. And that is what I suggest we do here.

Bigdig had a good time the other night plowing snow with you. If I had only known before that you were related to the Snow Buddah. ;):{

Well guys, I'm sorry this is so difficult. If anyone is reading animosity in my posts, I assure you it just isn' t there. If there is tension between the posts, I fear it is simply inevitable. To our credit, we have not resorted to name calling, and I think that speaks to the general maturity of this crowd. We've all seen threads where this occured--the fact that no one here wants to go there is really awesome.

As our only remaining elected official, I think it is incumbent upon me to mediate an election, and bring the next round of leaders forward. In the process of doing this, I think it's essential to 'take the pulse' of the group, to take the measure of what we want to do as a whole. I have started this thread to do two things, first to let everyone know it's time for an election, and second to mediate a discussion about where we want to go in the coming year. Who should take the lead in the coming year? What do we expect from our leaders?

I think the best thing would be to talk it up here, then do the formal nominations again when we meet face to face. My intent is to flush out the candidates now, so that it isn't left to the last hour. This is to everyone's benefit, giving us all time to think about our options

When this was last done, the consensus was that we were a bunch of guys drinking beer in a garage, that we didn't want to pay dues, that we wanted to keep it as informal as possible, that rules weren't really neccessary, and that the one thing that everyone did want, was a means to let everyone know when the next event was. I'm hearing the same things again through this thread.

As I see it at this moment, we have the following issues to resolve:

1) whether or not we will be having an election at Hooters. If not, where we will be having an election?

2) whether or not an election is what we want to have. How do we want to chose our representatives if not an election?

3) we have nominations for Tim Taylor (ToolManTimTaylor), Mark Trenske (TorqueThis), and myself Matt Wheaton (Wheaties) for the positions of leader, email person, and leader respectively. Mark and Tim will accept these positions, and I am on the fence as to whether I will accept or not.

There are other issues we need to talk about, if someone would re-iterate the important ones, it will save me the effort of re-reading the thread.

Believe me when I say this, I'm okay with this any way it comes out. My only issue is that we decide as a group, and that the majority of us end with a feeling that the decision was fairly done.

If you really want to start another thread, I will do so happily, but I don't see what this will accomplish. The baggage will move along with us. I'd prefer to move the discussion forward. If this really can't be done, then I'd agree the best thing is to bag this thread and wait till we can do it in person. Honestly, I don't think we are doing that badly.

I think that if we don't have an election at HOOTERS then we at least set up an agenda and a date for election. From the people I have met I think this a good mature bunch of people (?) and no matter who gets elected to a position it will be OK with the general membership.

Someone pointed out Holeshot to me at Scotts, so from what I've seen I second the motion for Holeshot for court jester. I've got gas already just thinking about it. Excuse me!

My one question is: Why can't we just keep going along the way that we have been? When ever there is a meet, most all of us see it posted on the TDR, then we post as to whether or not we can go. We then show up, have a good time, and go to the next one.

This seems to me that this is working. We all agree that our goal should be to get together at least every couple of months. If someone has something they want to do, then just post it either here or on the new NETDP website, and those who are interested can post back and figure out the mechanics of it then. Like Jeff said, we're really just a bunch of guys ( and girls now, too) drinking beer in a garage.

I like the idea of keeping it simple, stupid. Matt, you said something to the effect that you would just like to go to a meet and have fun. This says to me that you are too preoccupied with trying to maintain organization as your first priority. And no doubt you have stepped up to plate and done so. We appreciate it surely. But, in light of the fact that you are so willing to take the bull by the horns, others just kind of step down and let you do your thing. Its easier for us that way, but you really don't have to be the guy to cook the burgers at all the meets ( sorry George:D ). Next time we have a meet, why don't we just take a roll call and determine who is going to do the:

1: Cooking ( if there is any to be done)

2. Phone arrangements ( if the meet requires prior planning outside of the group).

All of this can easily be accomplished through posting, without the necessity for e-mail. And for those in the group who may not be able to post here, they can read about it on the NETDP site.

Then, we all show up and have a good time. There doesn't need to be anything more, anything less in my opinion.

Just for the record, I do appreciate the efforts of the guys who have devoted their time to this stuff, so thank you to them.

Well it ain't the cooking that I mind. In fact, I haven't done that much cooking when it comes right down to it. When we meet at Mark's, he takes the lead along with Tim on the food. The seafood fest was a group effort that came out of nowhere. I think some skinny kid volunteered to bring lobster and we were off and running... this is the kind of teamwork that makes an event truly effortless and I'd like to see more of it. George has taken the lead more than a couple times, and Scott always does more than his share when we meet in MA. Fred put together a great Christmas party--you should have seen the food at that event--MTY ate off the floor at that one, we have pictures.

It's entirely possible that we don't really need someone to take the lead. Anarchy has been given a bad rap, but more than one person has described it as "making it a world where it's easier for people to be good. " Less rules mean people need to take responsibility for themselves, but that is probably a conversation for another time.

What I have done in the past year is volunteer to be the person to send and email and let the list know an event is about to happen. At many of these events, it's a good idea to know how many are coming. The last wrench day is a good example of that. There were two things that concerned us, how much food, and whether we could park as many trucks as were coming. Making that count has fallen to me and that isn't a big deal either.

The email thing hasn't worked as well as it might, and more recently we've resorted to just starting a thread on the TDR and following up with an email to let everyone know. Tim has pointed out that a TDR thread leaves anyone who isn't a member mute unless they can ask through someone who is. This is a good point. Should we have our own website? Will this solve our problem? It might. Do we want to decide to have a website as a group or should someone just decide that for us?

How we decide to deal with the minor issues to solve even the minimal organizational issues, has a direct bearing on our ability to enjoy ourselves later. For example, if no one brings paper plates to an event is no big deal if we're only eating burgers, but if it's pot luck stew, or sphagetti, it might be a pain. Isn't it better if we know who is responsible for coordinating even the paper plates? That is, shouldn' t things go a lot smoother if we impose just the minimal amount of organization so that everyone knows what to expect? Then everyone is free to enjoy themselves.

Why now? George has stepped down as lead, and it has been over a year since we had an election. Maybe elections are a dumb idea. Let's decide as a group whether they continue.

Hey

what's going around here, dam I step out for a while and the whole thing is up in kabuks (is that how you spell it?)

You guys remind me today's engineers can't leave the old simple stuff alone and gotta make it complicated and screw it up.

Now I didn't read all pages but Batman is stepping down? NO one gave him the OK:rolleyes: Votes, please we don't need to go through those hanging chads or whatever:D

Hooters way to go, when's the next meet or dyno, I feel like kicking ass

If we do the voting at Hooters on the 29th... . I can't make it. Other plans have suddenly come up.

Can I get an absentee (sp?) ballot?
