Hey Guys,

I've been talking to a muffler shop that I’ve decided to have put on my new exhaust, including a new down tube he suggested to accommodate the 3. 5" (3" around the xfer case) system. He uses a straight threw tractor trailer muffler 3. 5. " He has had some happy 1st gen customers (I talked to one of them). I've seen his work and it's as good as it gets.

But rather than just take his choices I thought I should ask you guys what to ask for, especially in the down tube area. I'm not sure what I will be doing turbo related and am still trying to absorb the smaller housing stuff and wondering what will be the best choice for my use. OR is there hot side turbo issues that should be decided first? Or whatever?

Thanks Jim

Turbo issues should be identifide before exhaust work is started ideally  I just put the 12cm^2 housing on my truck, and am running around with no exhaust because I need to have some pipe bent and welded to adapt it to the new housing.

Here are the facts in short:

12,14,16,18,21 housings non-wastegated: Easy exhaust work because stock down pipe is fine... . unless you want bigger :D

12,14 with a wastegate: More difficult because the additional length of the housing. To add to the difficultly in my trials, I used an elbow off the back of my turbo that allowed me to use a 3" down pipe. This elbow requires custom exhaust work on the down pipe to make it work with the rest of your exhaust.

But..... if you are having an entire system built, some of what I have said above does not matter or apply. As for housing choice, I think that you'll never go wrong with the 16 and more fuel, my Dad's truck runs like a top :)

How far is Firestone from Montrose? I have a buddy here in Montrose that can do a full 4" exhaust on these trucks. Mine is the second one he has done. Figured out a couple of upgrades from the first one he did. 4" will go around the transfer case, but it is very tight. Mine has been on for almost 5 months now and no rattles and it is not hitting the transfer case. I travel across CO every couple of months, I could let you see mine sometime. I am going to try and borrow a digital cam and post some pics. Let me know if you would be interested, I could get you his phone no.

Alot has happened in the last few days... The day I finished my suspention a young Man that had my old add offered me full price without the Wilderness shell. I then had a couple of sleepless nights when he stoped by with his girl and a $350 cashiers check to hold it. This morning I deleivered My truck to the bank in Fort Collins where we did the deal. My wife and I then drove to Denver and bought a 2002 CTD, Its in the garage.

Thanks anyway for the offer on the exhaust help.

The couple that bought my truck moved to Steamboat today after buying My Truck, I hope they keep in touch.

I guess it's time to update the Signature.
