Here's the deal... 02 5 spd, 3. 54 qc... just put on an EZ yesterday, no other mods, and occassionally under moderate throttle at low rpm (1300 ish), empty, I hear a groan that sounds like the transmission. It sounds an awful lot like the A833 with bad bearings I had in my 90 gasser that had 249k on her. That scares me. It doesn't do it all the time and sometimes it is louder than others. It has made a similar noise since new but only when starting in second by letting out clutch then giving it light throttle... ya'll familiar with that noise? This is the same noise, only louder and in second, third, and fourth.

Any ideas? I can't believe just an EZ would be putting that much stress on it.

Thanks,

Jim

Betcha it's "gear growl".

My 6 speed does it as did my Toyota 5 speed. Not a problem imo. Lots of manual trannys do it. It's the trannys way of letting you know it's time to down shift. When I drop below 1500 RPM, I down shift. Very important when pulling a load or running heavy. Low RPMs and high torque is tough on the drive train.
