Mallory 4140M Installed

The guys at Diesel Performance Products have released a new FASS pump for the guys who are just looking for a pump. It does not do any filtering (except a screen in the intake) or air removal. Looks like the price is about 300 less than a regular FASS.

Have a look the Diesel Performance Products website and look up at the top for the "new pump" link.

Here is a photo I borrowed from DPP

Two versions are available, one flows 95 GPM and the other 150 GPM.

The pump looks good. I wish they would be a little more descriptive when they mention moderate horsepower modifications. What exactly is their definition of moderate? Also, I assume that the 150 GPH is for more than moderate horsepower modification.

I am definitely interested in this newly released LP alternative.

Hmm, I don't know. With my truck at it's current HP level, I have an aeromotive fuel pump that I can suck the pressue down to 3-4 psi in a hurry and it is rated for 150 gph also.

True, might not be enough for your level, but in my "Mildly Bombed" motor I think it's just the ticket! I'm getting the lower GPH one. We'll see how it works :D

Gents I can not answer your questions as I was just posting the info I found. There is a thread on Diesel Truck Resource about it. Its the same pump that comes on the normal FASS. This pump seems to supply (from what I have read) 15 psi all the time. It most certainly is a canidate to replace the current lift pump, and I am going to look into it more. The one big positive I see is that it has a 4 year warranty (if you send the card in), so other than having to send it in to get fixed if it fails, you would not have to buy another lift pump for 4 years.

Please don't take this as a sarcastic flame...

Why wouldn't you want the filters? I'm trying to learn something here, it seems to me they would be nothing but an asset.

Because some believe they might be able to build a better filtration system than the FASS. Remember: FASS is one solution among thousands...

Anyone have a price on one of these pumps?

-Ryan :)

I think the filters on the FASS are fine, what I can not loose is the fuel heater in the stock fuel filter can. This would let me run the pump by itself and still utilize the stock filter (which is a fine unit and plenty for our trucks. . IMHO) and fuel heater.

The other thing is the $$, this is about $300 less than a regular FASS.

The two things that worry be about the orginal FASS with filters is:

1. Gelling in the winter because they aren't heated.

2. Mounting those filters so they can be serviced and yet not be damaged by off-roading or road debris.

Anyone got an exact price yet? I didn't see it listed. Also, is that a fixed 15psi. . or can you tinker with it. The pump looks like the start of a good system.

Just athought for anyone wanting a heated filter. Since you're about to remove you're old system... use the oem filter "before" the FASS. That way you'll have a heater and WIF sensor (you have to extend the electrical lines).

Add a nice 2 micron filter after the FASS and you're done. Or... . the hell with all that. . just buy the complete FASS.

The FASS is not self priming, so in this type of install it could suffer worse than the stock lift pump. You can't move the existing fuel filter housing to the back of the truck because of the return lines that are incorporated into it; at least not on the HPCR trucks. (Sorry, I should not have said can't, unless your a really good plumber(or have the same tenacity as Rbattelle))

Thank you JR2 and Billy Diesel for the info. I'm glad I asked, too. We saw -28* last year here, believe it or not! The heater is a definite must-have.

Does the Air-Dog have a heater?

I have the FASS on my truck... w/o any heater..... and have never had an issue. It gets as cold here (Michigan) as pretty much anywhere ('cept maybe Alaska) and my truck lives outside all winter with -20 and greater temps and windchills, covered in ice, etc. Fires right up every time. I think there is no need for a heater on these fuel pumps (from my experience).

The FASS has the ability to have engine coolant run through it to warm the fuel, there is no 12v fuel heater on it.

CW - In Alaska we need the fuel heater, up here our fuel is crap. You guys down South get summer fuel with an additive in it to keep if from turning to jello. Up here we get a mix of summer/winter fuel with no additive. If your not carefull about where you buy the fuel you can have geling problems. Most of the big stations have a sticker telling you how cold you can go with out problems. . My Father geled up his 92 once. . not fun to deal with.

So what I wonder is can I get this pump with just the mounting bracket and the electrical connections, I already have moved my stock pump to the rear of the truck and already have SS -6an fuel lines from tank to VP44.

Thanks for posting this. This looks like it could be promising. Depending on how they are priced, it could be the way to go.

Question - if you were just running this pump instead of the factory lift pump - could it be mounted under the hood? Why would you want it all the way back near the tank?
