Hello all,

Just thought I'd introduce myself as I'm a first gen neophyte.

I've been a TDR member for a long time but I've come full circle and gone Old school with my '92 W250.

The body is rust free (I included a pic when I pulled the carpet, the northern guys will appreciate) but the interior was totally shot.

I've been installing a new dash, headliner, carpet and the seat/cover is next. along with chasing down all the little things that get neglected over 17 years and many owners.

The drivetrain is solid although a trans upgrade is in order. I have a kit to kill the KDP as well.

I also want to say thanks to all those who share their knowledge on this forum as they have helped me a great deal and a head's up as I'll be asking alot of questions in the future.

Thanks,

John

Awesome truck! I like when people do thigs the right way.

jwinnie, Really nice! I have been a first gen owner since 1991:-laf. Recently I have been BLESSED by a gift of a 1993 W-250. My '91 bit the dust and was totalled. I kept it for parts and plan a parts swap as time goes on. I am still learning about these vehicles and hope to keep one on the road fer quite a spell! Your interior gutting is quite impressive. My project includes a bed swap, rear axle swap and a front driveshaft swap after a front wheel/four wheel alignment and an engine oil analysis. Have fun! GregH

Jwinnie, I'm a new 1stgenner too! In the month and a half I've owned my '93, I have drove the 2000 once. And that was to purchase new wiper blades for the '93 during a rain storm.

Have you turned the pump up yet?

jwinnie- how did you get the dash out without removing the windshield? I need to tighten my bolts holding the dash on, but havent come up with anything short of throwing a wrench in the forge and re-shaping it.

NICE pickup, even if the shifter is in the wrong spot. ;)

dpuckett, Yes the seven wonderful screws at the base of the windshield. Absolutely ridiculous design. I did not have to remove them to take the old dash out because it was so broken up it practically fell out. The windshield did come out to install the new dash though. I could not think of a way to do it without tearing up the seal. Yes the shifter is in the wrong spot but it will have to do until the kids get older.

I'm pretty sure one of the previous owners messed with the pump as it will blow some smoke before the turbo spools. Spool up time is still slooooow compared to my last two Dodges, it's got to take 3-4 seconds of full throttle to spool this thing:eek: I think the '92 came with a 21cm housing??

Edit: How do I tell if the pump has been tweaked?

1st, I just wanna say your floors suck! ;) If you see where I'm from you'll understand. :-laf

On the windshield, did the installer put sealer around the gasket? I just had mine done and had to take it back because it leaked with a new window and gasket. I had to have it sealed between the cab and gasket, and the glass and gasket. I'd hate to see that pristine floor rot out because of a bad window install. :{

It sounds like you need a 16cm exhaust housing, that will spool it faster.

On the pump tweak, look at the screw above and behind the shut off solenoid. If it looks like a screw, somebody was into it. It should have a smooth tin cap on it if it's a virgin. Pretty sure the high idle screw has one too. I can't remember because it's been a while since mine fell off. ;)

Nice truck, it's good for another 200k miles.

PToombs, I have to say I was pretty upset when I read your post. I watched him do it and he did not use any sealer. We had a pretty heavy rain last night, so I lifted the floor mat this morning and found a nice big puddle on the driver's side#@$%! They are coming to re-seal it next week. I guess I owe you one.

Dieselman359, No problem! I'll trade straight up for that "D"350 flatbed you just finished:D

you should have seen it the first time I met dieselman. I was under a 2nd gen doing some trany work. He pulled in and was talking to another guy. When I came out from under the 2nd gen. I looked at his flatbed and asked him if he thought he was going to be able to leave with that flatbed. :-laf:-laf

The look on his face was priceless.

Oh yea what Pete said also.

John, no problem! I left my floor mat out until it was fixed right. I knew mine was leaking on the old cab and couldn't figure out where. I thought for sure it was coming in the kick panel vent. When I pulled the dash and stuff for the cab swap I saw the trails where the water came in. That fore warned me to watch it.

The thing that torqued me was I told the glass company that I wanted it sealed. The guy that did it was a 1/2 azzer, he never put any on the 1st time. They got rid of him after my truck went back the 3rd time.

3rd times the charm! :-laf

Welcome to the 1st Gen crowd!! You have a great specimen there and I bet you got a great deal on it. The TLC will go for miles. Definitely check stickies and do tweaks and improvements while you're in that deep and take care of all of them at once.

Well the TLC list is getting longer. I just found cowl cracks on both sides:mad:

I still need to kill the KDP and set the valves. Truck still has the factory muffler installed so that needs to go. Upgrade the TC/VB, new bumpers and tires. Should be good to go then:rolleyes:

Also pulling a code for the coolant temp sensor. Common problem??

I'm not complaining, It's a really straight truck for it's age. Just dealing with the issues and other peoples half arse repairs gets old sometimes.
