Neighbors Duramax folds

Issue #38

I sold my Y2K 3500 Saturday afternoon. Left Sunday looking for a replacement. Next thing I knew we were in North Carolina. From there we headed towards Nashville where we found ourselves in a Freightliner dealership. Now rather than a Dodge in my driveway I have a new 2003 Freightliner FL-60 with 300 hp, 860 Lbs of torque cat, air brakes, air ride cab, air ride suspension and seats. Also 22. 5 inch aluminum wheels, pac-brake, leather and what a pleasure to drive. Now I need to get a hitch installed and take our 5th wheel for a test drive.

Now that I don't own a TD I guess I'am not a offical TDR member. Either way, I will still be here ready and keeping up. We looked hard at the new 2003 trucks, but with our new 5th wheel it was just to heavy for it and still be legal. I'm sure we made the right decision (I hope)

hot damn! We need pictures. What are your opinions on this rig and towing. This is something I have looked into for future when my wife and I start to do some serious traveling.

congrats on the new rig. I noticed in your profile you have a good sized trailer. I am sure you made the right choice. Let us know how it does.

Congrats on the nice upgrade. Wish more folks would go this route.

there is 30 hp to be had by switching to the rv programing [but torque stays the same - i am assuming you have the 3126]

hmm. . a ps2k would work very nicely. increased power and fuel economy

and straight piped:D:D at school we had a 3126e with a 90° 4" elbow going up off the turbo and that was it. it sounded real good when you snapped the throttle a couple times good... also sounded good when we did the cylinder cut out. nice loapy idle with 3 cylinders ;)

just did some surfing on cat's website... i like that marine version... :D

More info about the FL-60

Far as options, I could go on forever. The main options are Cat 300hp 860 torque, air seats, air ride cab, air brakes, air ride with air dump, 22. 5 rubber on 6 aluminum wheels, air dryer/heater, allison 6 speed, exhaust brake that will put you through the windshield, power windows, keyless entry with auto door locks, horton fan, no spin differential, fuel/water separator w/heat, dual power w/heat mirrors, rear heat/ac, am/fm/sat radio w/cd. The ride is a total different from what my 3500 was.

I don't think I'll be dropping any bombs on this for some time. With the 300 hp and our 18,000 lb fifth I shouldn't have to much of a problem pulling. With 350,000 mile engine warranty I don't and can't afford not having it. Thats why I went with the Freightliner, no more bombing. If I wanted to bomb I'd gotten another Ram. As I grow older I seem to be wiser, as saftey has seem to taken over. When you go out and spend your hard earned savings, its hard to pull $80,000 + from the stash. I still need to install a good air ride hitch on the truck which should be done by the end of the week. Someone asked about milage, my therory on milage! If I can afford something like this does milage really matter? Thanks for ToolMan for posting a picture, although my truck has lug nut covers with center crome hubs. I'm still trying to figure out how to reduce the file size. When I get it figured out I'll post pictures of the unit hooked up. To use this as a daily driver, I really wouldn't recomend it. To run up the miles on a truck of this size and cost just wouldn't justify it. I still do own a Dodge Dakota or two. They work just fine for the daily driver.

Hey Komik

Congrats on the new rig!! It looks great!!! Best wishes for many many miles. I keep telling myself, "one of these days I'm gonna do the same". Gotta wait for the stock market to turn around first and retirement second! Like they always say "you only go around once, might as well enjoy it!!

Joke or not, its still temping to just jump in and go for a ride. Driving this truck is a rush. I retired as a over road driver and to climb back in behind the wheel really makes my day. I've been taking the wife out driving as for when we hook up she will feel a little more comfortable, who say's I'll let her drive!:D
