Was just under the new truck getting ready for the exhaust change and noticed the cab area has an undercoating. Crawled over to the 01 and it's bare. I wonder if this is for sound deadening in lieu of the hood insulation or just on the nicer trucks.

My 01 doesn't even have carpeting so maybe that's another process they left off. Anyone else???

My 2000 didn't have any undercoating either, but my 2002 does. Just on the cab area like you said. Both are SLT's, don't know if it has anything to do with the model or the year. When I crawled under to put on the Westins I was surprised to see such a thick, heavy undercoating:eek:

Mine has it to. I called the dealer to raise H with them. I thought they did it after I told them i didn't want anything sprayed on the under side of my truck. Jeff

NO undercoat

I have an `01. 5 SLT with vinyl floor and NO undercoating, although I DO have the underhood sound deadener. Hope this helps, Jim.

Must be something new for 2002 since the trend is headed toward having "quiet" diesel trucks, both in and out. I test drove a 2002 today and noticed the undercoating only on the cab section.

Found something else......

The hose clamps on the intercooler hoses now have constant tension clamps. No more loosening up. If I keep tinkering with the truck I may find more.

So far I have Undercoating, a one piece oil dipstick and Better inter cooler clamps.

Lost fenderwell liners and hood insulation.

Garrett,

I do not know if any of these changes would be listed or not but I have the service manual on cd and can check thing out if you need any info.

Thanks Bill.....

I have the FSM for my 01. So far everything seems interchangable. Other than a few minor thing mentoned I believe they're the same trucks. Haven't really jumped into the wiring and that's where I might give you a ring.

Floor undercoating.

My 2002 3500 SLT+ has it. I was as suprised as you when iI saw it. I was also suprised NOT to find the under hood insulation mat. When I confronted the dealers and told him my 97 and 99 had it he called the factory and they shipped it to him as they said they missed it. Has it really been removed from the factory installed line? Atleast the dealer got one for me and installed it. :)

Hood insulation

I have a Feb 01 Built truck, dad has a March 02 built truck, both slt's. His did not have the hood insulation. He talked with the dealer and they ordered him one, I think he paid $75 or so for it. The dealer said they were deleted.

Hood insulation

Anyone know if NOT having the insulation will have any long-term paint effects on the hood from the engine heat????

My 02 has the undercoat too, I thought it was a dealer thing as well. The spring loaded clamps were a nice surprise but there are only 2 of them on the first junction. This is where mine would always blow off anyway untill i bought the spring clamps and different hose for past trucks. The big diff in 02 is no front axle disconnect, I have a whole thread on that subject. I'll have to look for the hood liner.

undercoating

What type of undercoating is used on these trucks? Is it the tar-like spray on, or more like the polyurethane spray-in used in the beds by Rhino Linings and Line-X? Have thought about using the roll on bed liner material to undercoat my cab on my '98. The tar based undercoating if exposed to any solvents, oil, trans fluid, etc, becomes a sticky mess!!! I don't think the polyurethane coating would be affected this way. My . 02.

It's the black sticky stuff (undercoating)

Put the Dynamat under the carpet, not under the cab. But you'll probably notice the most improvement by putting it on the inside back of the cab behind the rear seat.

Hey all... . here's what my buddy at the Stealer's Body Shop told me. All of the trucks made in Mexico are undercoated... St Louis trucks aren't. Model year means little if anything. I guess it has to do with protection during rail transport. There are probably exceptions to this rule, but I thought I'd pass along what he told me.
