Hi,

Just wondering if its normal or acceptable for a basically new transmission to be weeping fluid out of the seal between the 2 case sections (towards the rear of the trans), or should I be taking this down to the local ******* and have them poke at it?

Clean off the area in question. Monitor for a leak. Seepage from newly assembled components is a normal condition.

How many miles on the unit.

Make sure to clean and dry the area. Record the date and mileage.

Monitor for 500 miles and re-check it. A leak is considered to be a drip.

Yeah, I did exactly that. Cleaned it off with some degreaser and will continue to watch it closely.

When I caught it, It did seem to have a part of a drop forming... not visibly mind you. What we call "wetness" at the shop. I had just come back from work, and hadn't let it sit too long, so any drops that formed would have blown away under the truck. Tomorrow, I'll take a look and see if anything has dripped. And snap a photo for documentation while I'm at it.
