I just bought an auto transmission filter and gasket for my '96 Dodge from Doren Dodge in McMinnville,Or. and they sold me a different type gasket than before. They also sold me fourteen new pan bolts with flat bottoms to install the pan with. They said it's a new type to stop leaks. It has metal inside it and rubber ridges on it's face. Do I need any sealant when I install it? Are the torque values still valid in my service book? Is this gasket reuseable? The cost was $15. 00 just for the gasket, about $6. 00 for the bolts and $8. 00+ for the filter. The gasket came with no instructions and the Kid at the counter hadn't a clue! They also wanted to sell me two gallons of transmission fluid for over $30. 00 bucks! Any advice is appreciated. HerbW:rolleyes:

Herb, I have a Manual Trans. Not really sure about your questions.

Since you have to drop the pan anyway, I'd seriously consider upgrading to the new Mag-Hytec "double deep" auto trans pan. It comes with a gasket and New Filter. 1000% better than the OEM pan. You can alway return the stuff you already bought from the dealer. :)

Hi Hemi,

THe deep Magtec pan is next in line after I do the "plate" in the pump. Is the new pan any different than the stock to do service on it? Does the gasket get replaced then? I'm installing TST gauges this week, then on to other things! I'm taking a trip pulling a trailer sooner than I will be replacing the pan, so it's time for new oil and no new pan today. Thanks for the advice! HerbW:eek:
