New GM auto transmission tech question

Attention GM Techs! My question pertains to the light duty Automatic found in 1500 series Gas pickups. How does the transmission seemingly change the gear ratio spread between gears when switched between tow and regular mode? A friend had just got one, and it really seems as though the transmission has 2 sets of ratios. Thanks in advance!

Variable pitch stator in the TC? Electric UD as well as OD? (I'm not a tech; just full of ideas. )

Howabout a really loose TC then with tow/haul mode on the TC is locked up in all gear,, minus 1st.



My thought on the matter. .
