Just joined the TDR after looking at and reading the posts for nearly a year. This is my first post so i hope i do this right!!
My Transmission is giving me problems Again. I seem to have developed a torque converter leak, and it goes in and out of lockup, and it slipps. Aamco rebuilt it last feb. and there is a 1 yr. warranty so i will be going back again (3rd time). I think part of the problem may be the TPS. Is there a good way to check it and how much will it cost. Hope you guys with more smarts than me can help
Nick

If you want to test yours try following the instructions on this page. Click here
If it is bad, get ready to dig deep in the wallet to pull out the $140 itr cost to replace it. That is if you buy it from someone else besides the dealer. He wants almost $200 for it.
It's simple to replace, only 2 bolts, just make sure it's adjusted right. I used to take mine off and spray it real good with some electric contact cleaner and it would clear up, but it would eventually start to act up after a while. Not my problem anymore.

BTW, Welcome to the site. Lots to learn

I am also new to the site as a member. I have had similiar problems. Whiel driving down road, the converter would kick in and out. Thanks to the guys on this site, I have discovered the problem. It is the TPS. I took their advice and bought a can of electricl motor cleaner. Six months later and I am still on the same can. I have not broke down and bought the $140. 00 sensor. It takes about 5 minutes to clean. Hope this helps.

Okay, I dont mean to sound like the stupid new guy but what are you cleaning????? just the contacts???? or are you having to take the sensor apart???? thanks in advance

I would spray the entire thing liberally, contacts and all. I did not see a way to take it apart though. I would just take the TPS off the engine and spray everything I can. Don't forget the connection on the truck either.

I saw a post a while back about a guy that disassembled his and cleaned the carbon (looking) deposits off the contacts. Might be worth a shot...
