I have been a member for a few months. I owned a '95 12V in the past and ever since that pickup, I have wanted another Cummins.
About me - I'm pretty much a gearhead, but my main skill set lies in metal fab. I do a lot of off-roading in the desert, mostly in rails and on dirt bikes.
The truck - Last week I bought a 2003 C code quad cab 4x4. It has 74K on the clock and is super clean. Got it from a used dealer in Idaho, Carfax shows it was auctioned.
I live in CA and bought the truck out of state. This one runs really good and I suspected it may have been turned up a bit. Took it to the smog guy yesterday and he aborted the test for smoke during the test that calls for rapidly depressing the throttle several times. It just barely didn't meet the spec of dissipation in 10 seconds.
So now I need to try and figure out whats been done, and what to do about it.
What I know: Stock filter mounted lift pump. - I just replaced it, buying time to decide what delivery system to end up with
Cold air intake
3.5" exhaust.
I don't see a tuner, but I am not familiar with what to look for.
My question is are there common mild performance mods for the Gen 3 HO that I could easily identify? I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to diesel performance, but good at diving in and figuring things out.
