Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) New guy with a 12V, a few questions

I just got a 98 12v Auto and I have a couple of concerns with it. The transmission seems to really take forever to shift into OD. I don't know if you can adjust the TV cable or something to help this or if it is a sign of a transmission ready to die (God I hope not). Also, does the wastegate vent pressure off to the outside air? I am not used the the loud hissing sound when accelerating.

Are you sure the delayed shift is into overdrive and not third gear? turn the o/d off and see if you still have the delayed shift or not. If the delayed shift is in third gear its probably a bad lip seal on the front clutch pack. if the delay is into overdrive it could be an electrical issue..... tps, solenoid, etc. or a bad seal on the overdrive piston. how many miles on this trans?



The loud hissing noise on acceleration sounds like a boost leak? do you have gauges? check all the rubber hoses on the charge air cooler, gasket at the intake horn and the hose on the wastegate.

Welcome to the TDR.



The slow shifting into O/D is somewhat normal if you drive like you have an egg under your go pedal. Now, if you drive it like you stole it, when it tries to shift into O/D, lightly back off the go pedal. It just does it to save the transmission. The PCM "learns" how you drive, and will shift softer with light throttle pressure, or shift firmer with hard accelleration.



You shouldn't have a hissing noise. Probably have a boost leak somewhere. Maybe a loose clamp on an intercooler boot, a rubbed thru boot, intake bolts need to be tightened, ... ... .....



The wastegate doesn't vent to the atmosphere.
