please bear with me while i ramble...

hi everybody just picked up a 97 3500 std cab 5 SPD to pull the race car trailer. first time owning a diesel PU and i have about a thousand questions. the front seal was leaking so i pulled the cover to replace the seal and put a tab over the KDP (which wasn't loose at all). the brake light was on (but ABS light burned out) and either the lot where i got it or previous owner put electrical tape over it. from surfing it looked like the RW sensor was the most likely so i checked it and it checked open, $32 later the lights are out and the ABS is back in action. while i was in the climate control (for lighting) noticed oil in it and see there's TSB's on the vacuum pump. as far as i can tell it has the larger fitting with the check in it. i blew out all the lines and installed one of the clear plastic fuel filters at the pump to knock out any oil. the truck seems to run and drive pretty decent and looks like it was used not abused. one thing is the muffler is AWOL with a straight pipe in its place. i'm thinking about a new exhaust system but see most of them look like they discard the CAT. while i'd like to heave the CAT i don't want any issues when i go to get it inspected. would like some recommendations on what to do with the exhaust. i see some stainless 4" systems on ebag for $380 shipped which looks to be the best deal. i don't plan on hot rodding the tow truck as the race cars take up enough of my time and money.

thanks for your input.

Unless you have high EGT's you don't need to spend the money for exhaust yet. Do it if you want to but you won't notice it for power. Not till you get up around 375hp at the tires is it needed.

Are you planning to add power?

You have the best truck to add power too.

Also it is capable of some great mileage!!!!
