As noted in previous threads, I am very interested in acquiring a Bigfoot camper. They are rare as hen's teeth in my part of the world, even though there is a Bigfoot "dealer" in Waxahachie he does not keep stock on hand.

I went to New Hampshire on a business trip this week, and thought I would avail myself of the opportunity to look at a camper at the Bigfoot dealer up there (advertises on internet). I called and talked to the guy before I left Texas, told him if I could get a good deal I would either drive up and get it or arrange shipping.

The dealer in question is "Barco sales" in Bedford, NH. When I got to NH, I drove up and was disappointed to see they had only 1 camper, a 2500 10. 6, but was very excited to get to see one in person. I got there at 5:30, as the guy told me on phone he was there until 6:00 (internet said 6:00 too). Nobody was there, and I waited around and knocked on doors (looks like they live there) but nobody came out so I had to go away empty-handed so to speak.

Called the next day and told him I had come by and they weren't there, got the response "Oh yeah, we changed the hours. " Tried to get him to tell me about the camper but all he would say was, "it has all options but a generator", wouldn't tell me if had an AC in or one would be installed, nothing. Since I was working there was no way I could get there before 5, so I asked him if he could stick around a few minutes to talk to me. Answer "Our hours are 8 to 5". Pointed out I had come all the way from Texas and was a serious buyer, response "Our hours are 8 to 5". I was getting pretty peeved at this point so I just crossed this guy off the list and resolved to deal elsewhere. I wouldn't buy that camper from that guy if he gave me 40% off.

Any of you guys ever dealt with these people before? Sure wasn't like any sales technique I ever ran across in Texas before, but then the general atmosphere in NH was a LOT less friendly than Texas so maybe being a jerk is a cultural thing or something.

I called Bigfoot Industries to complain about the dealer today and find out where I can see one of these campers, and was told that the Barco guy is no longer a Bigfoot dealer. The camper on his lot was a 2001 model and had apparently been sitting a long time, guess any other prospective buyers had the same sort of reception as me.

According to the folks at Bigfoot, looks like Colorado is my closest chance to see one in the flesh. Am also talking to dealers in NW and Canada, apparently I will be driving a bit to find my Bigfoot.

Fortunately, I have a Dodge diesel and LIKE to drive... :D :D :D

That pretty much aligns with the experience I had with that dealer. They were extremely difficult to get any information out of, and did not seem particularly interested in making a sale. There were two people there, one was real clueless, and stone-walled all my questions, didn't even really want to show me a camper. The other was a little better and actually asked what we were looking for in a camper and took the time to answer a couple of questions. I was not impressed.

I will not be buying from them.

Mike, your experience sure sounds frustrating! I know exactly how you feel and I have some companies that I won't buy from, regardless of price. If they expect you to spend your money on a big ticket item, the least they can do is treat you with courtesy and respect. I hope you don't give up on your Bigfoot. Between my camping buddies and I, we have 4 of them! (a 3000, two 2500's and a 1500) and we all are extremely pleased with our units and probably won't have any other brand. Of course, it is alot easier for us, as the Bigfoot manufacturing plant is 45min from my office and Mike Rosman RV (The biggest Bigfoot dealer there is) is a 30 min drive from here (Vernon, B. C. ). What about asking if anyone has a newer Bigfoot in your area that you could look at? You might try IRV2.com or one of the other RV sites. Someone might even be traveling in your area in the near future. I also believe that they are in the process of setting up a Bigfoot Owners Club on the 'net. Just a thought.

Good luck

Dave

I agree! The Bigfoot is worth the extra trouble! Maybe a quick road trip up to see Mike Rosman RV would be worth it since you are planning on a long term investment.

As long as your opinion sticks to cultural, and doesn't get into a regional opinion, I'm fine with that. This guy sounds like a back-woods, red-neck, stick-in-the-mud, and I'd definately not go there for ANYTHING. If someone is that rude to a potential customer, I ALWAYS assume that they are pretty well-off, and clearly don't need the business to stay in the money. Besides, if he used to be a dealer and isn't any more, then you've got to wonder how he got that way - was it his choice, or did the company drop him becasuse of his behavior?

Getting off the soapbox ;)

The Bigfoot dealer in Colorado Springs sells a ton of campers, and they usually have a pretty good selection. I can assure you the dealer you spoke to in no way reflects upon Bigfoot the company. I personally know several of the people at Bigfoot and have toured their factory, TOP NOTCH!! Btw I have a 10. 11 3000 that I'm very happy with.

I agree with Powder Extreme- c'mon up to Colorado Springs. Camping Country RV people are easy to talk with, has lots of inventory on the lot, and is willing to deal. Try; www.campingcountryrv.com

I recommend this dealer, even though I bought a new Eagle Cap camper from a dealer in Bozeman MT! :D
