One more thing: If I had 4:10 gears instead of the 3:73s, I would go with 245s instead of the 225s. I am still giving the 4:10s a lot of thought.

Heres my truck right side up and in the light. . Dang phone camera. .

anyway. they are a little skinnier than the stock 17"s. will roll good too. tread on these are 22/32nds. not as much as my old 245's but oh well. these ride pretty well.

Eric, nice outfit. What gear ratio do you have in the rearend? What do you have for a transmission?
I'm on the fence about tires right now for my 04. 5 dually 4wd. It's got the NV5600 and with stock tires, I feel I'm under speed or over rpm'ed for my style of driving and would like to go with a taller tire. I have 4. 10's in the pumpkin. Being that it's a dually, I'm really limited on taller (narrow) tires so I was thinking of 19. 5's and 245's.

When I installed the 225/70/19. 5s my speedo went from 3 miles fast to dead on. According to Rickson's little Whiz Bang Calculator, the 245s only have a 1. 9 mph difference over the 225s... ... ... ..... With that being said, you may gain 5 mph with the 245s over stock.

Also Rickson's little Whiz Bang Calculator will calculate tire size as it effects ratios.

Barry, thanks for the info. I think I'd be tickled pink if I was to gain ~5mph over what I'm at now.

Just off hand, does anyone know the approx weight of a stock rim and tire vs a Rickson's aluminum rim and tire in size 245? Would I be a dumb @$$ if I made the switch to 19. 5's and didn't get a spare also? Honestly to only reason I wouldn't is because of the cost of these. They are EXPENSIVE.

Double the weight of an OEM tire and wheel and you will be very close. At my advanced age, it is a strain to pick one up.

don't know that this helps any but the nitto dura grapplers i have 285 75 17 have a 3970 lbs rating at 80 psi they probably won't get the same amount of miles on them but they are quit a bit cheaper

Hey Barry, I finally got around to regrooving the Continental HSRs on our work truck. Turns out I could only safely remove 3/32" from the grooves and still leave 3-4/32" rubber before getting to the steel belts. These are on the steers, so I didn't want to push it.

How are yours going? Have you noticed an increase in traction on wet/snow conditions?

I had a catastrphoic tire failure with a brand new HT behind me. I gave up on used tires and bought(at the insistence of my bride) a new set of HSR Connies. When these run down in a 100K or so, then I will re-groove and know what I have. Once I re-groove, I plan to buy new steer tires and run the re-grooved ones on the back. At that point, I will give consideration to capping 2 of the 4 re-grooved ones.

Our M/O has changed since I am starting to buy medium duty hauler trucks for the dealership. Our miles are now split about 50/50 between the Dodge and our tow car. I just got home with this PeterCar last night.
