WOW!

Nice pics CJ,

However, they would look alot better on a ,,,,,,,,,,,,, say,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 25" monitor  and dial-up is really a bummer. :(

I see that you are just up the road from me. We'll have to get together sometime. :D

BTW, we also have a 78 CJ-5, Stock 6, and 33x12. 50's :D

Mark, the new trucks have a 4" exhaust from the factory, so that probably explains the turbo outlet. Did you notice that the manifold turns down before the turbo. Must be a lot smaller engine compartment because I read the turbo almost hits the wheel well. Think that new B1 of your's would fit on it?:D

Brian

most definitely. . w/very little fab work. in place the B1 doesn't take up much space. an extra inch or two. You'd just have to clock it a bit. You'd need the 90* fitting that goes from the turbo to the tubing on a <2003 truck because of the different compressor outlet.

Nice Pics, but....

Typical advertising. I notice they've put the front seats forward quite a bit, to give the appearance of lots of room in the back seats. I'd like them to show some pictures of full-sized adults (6'0 and taller) in both the front and back, simultaneously and then we'll see just how it stacks up the the "real" crew cabs.

It looks to have a 4" outlet and a very different compressor housing.

:{ The turbo is a HY-35 which is has a 3. 5 outlet and the same compressor as the current autos. That means that if you want to hop it up alot, you will have to spend 600+ dollars for a HX-35. Nobody makes replacement housings for the HY turbo

What is the difference between the HX and the HY?

I don't see why they changed the turbo. It just makes the aftermarket make new downpipes and Ebrakes. I see no reason for it. the HY35 does not give better performance as far as I know. Emissions should not be affected appreciably either:confused:

I guess its possible that this is an engine for an auto?? maybe the std will have an HX??

From what I have read, all motors will have the HY. The main difference is the HX uses a bolt on housing and the HY uses a clamp on housing. Any mods over stage one injectors and an EZ syle box will experience to high of EGT's. The current HY's have a 9cm housing while the HX's have a 12cm housing. However, I believe that the new HY's will come with a 10 which is still not enough for stage 3 injectors. The HX-35 has numerous housings avaliable from 10 to 18's and possibly larger though 16 is probably the max you would want, while the HY-35 has none that I am currently aware of. :(

If you guys read my article you'll see that the HY35 turbo will be on all three versions of the engine 235/460, 250/460, and 305/555. The reason for the smaller turbo is very simple - PACKAGING. There is only about 3/4 inch clearance between the compressor side of the turbo and the shock tower. Mark, you'll find that it will take a lot of fabbing to get anything larger than what's on there to fit, you'll need to go to a custom manifold, change the downpipe, and move a bunch of stuff around. There's 30% less underhood space in the '03's than in the current trucks. If you look at my article I took quite a few up close pictures showing how tight it is in there. The Cummins engineers said that shoehorning the motor in there was difficult.

Steve, already read it. Great article by the way, have you done the follow-up yet. As for the turbo, if you can't go larger without major ( and spendy ) modifications, then I will stick to the 2nd gen.

Mark, right at the top of this thread list there's a thread titled "ONLINE ARTICLE on '03 intro & welcome to the Next Generation forum" #ad
or there is a link to it on the front page of the TDR site! Chipstien - I'm still collecting information for the update.

I was wrong, it was'nt the wheel well. It was the shock tower. See, I read some articles. I was being sarcastic about the B1 fitting. I thought Mark had read the article. Sorry Mark, did'nt mean to get you in trouble. :( Great article Steve. Very informative.

Brian

I wonder if they are changing the ISC8. 3 to all this goofy crap? And I wonder if they are puttin goofy turbos on them also? I guess we may have to re-research performance for the new engine. I bet you could just get goofy parts off a brand new 8. 3 and put them on the goofy 5. 9. Sorry! I just hate change and "technology":p
