I just received my High Idler today. I will probably have it installed by tomorrow. It does look like a nice clean unit. There doesn't seem to be any splicing of wires. Everything looks like it plugs right in. The hardest part of the installation looks like it will be fishing the wires for the On/Off switch through the firewall. I should also mention that the kit came with a great set of instructions. They are very detailed and thorough. I will post my findings and reactions tomorrow.

Do you need to have factory cruise control to use it? Sounds like you do. . bummer. . dont have cruise.

..... ditto that on the DTT TC and VB!

Walker, the idle controller is featured in wwcd2's group purchase program. I received an email from Carl last week regarding this.

Brad,
I am considering the VA (BD Plug-N-Power) and from your signature see that you have the same type truck. Auto and 3. 54. Do you like it (VA)and do you now need, the DTT VB or is it precautionary. I tow a 9000 lb+ fifth wheel and am looking for a little more power, but not at the expense of the transmission. Your thoughts?

Hey guys, sorry post is a day late. I installed the High Idler yesterday as planned. The installation went very smooth. The kit includes a nice micro on/off switch that goes on top of the steering column. The instructions that came with the kit walked me through the entire installation. There is no wire splicing, everything plugs right in. The wiring harnesses are made very well. Looks like a professional install. I should also mention that fishing the wires through the firewall was relatively easy. To turn the high idler on, just flip the micro-switch to the ON position with the truck running and the RPM's come up to about 1150 RPM. Flip the switch off and the RPM's drop back down to normal idle. So far the High Idler has worked flawlessly. It’s nice to get out of the truck and leave it running without having to worry about fuel wash-down. It also does a nice job of warming the truck up in the morning. This is a well-made and very useful product that I would definitely recommend to anybody.

Wayne & John: I'm having the DTT TC & VB installed today. Should be able to pick the truck up tomorrow morning. I know I'll be very pleased with the results.

Shortshift: No, you don't need the factory cruise for the High Idler to work. It plugs into the TPS, and is activated by the supplied On/Off switch.

M1A2: The VA is a great product, which gives a nice Seat-Of-The-Pants feeling when you really get into the throttle. It really wakes up the Cummins. If you do plan on adding the VA be sure to get a boost module also. It increases power at the top end. I have a Practical Solutions Boost Module. It works great and is reasonably priced.
I feel anything over stock horsepower and your auto transmission needs to be modified in some way. If you just add the VA, simply increasing the line pressure may be sufficient. However, I plan on adding bigger injectors, so the DTT TC & VB was a must have.

brad , fuel washdown may be a concern when the engine is cold , but i'll tell you something stupid i di with my ram when it was 2400 miles new .

i always leve it run for a few minutes while i go in and get the dogs to go for a walk , i came home one day , go distracted with the TDR i believe and didn't go right back out , wife comes home after me , 3 HOURS later , and asks me why the truck is still running in the driveway #ad
, my hearing isn't hte greatest and my driveway is 40 feet from the front door .

boy was i nervous , the next day i changed my oil and sent a sample off to blackstone ,expecting the worst , no note of any high fuel concetration , all was normal . in this 3 hours the engine idled down to 140 degrees . the fuel washdown i don't think is as big a concern for a hot engine as much as one that is stone cold , but i don't recommend doing what i did ... #ad

Thanks for the info Brad.

Looks like a great addition. I'm very happy w/ the quality of my other Practical Solutions item, so this should be an easy choice.

Hi guys, Anyone have Carl's website addy? I got a new puter and all was lost in the transfer. Thanks, Lou

This controller only works for the 24v right?

I wonder why it won't work on a 12v if it runs off the TPS.

Does anybody know of something like this for the 12v?

Here's the web address for Carl. http://www.wwcd2.com/

The question I have is; 1150 rpm doesn't sound anywhere near high enough. I thought most idle controllers put the idle up to 1500-1800 rpm. Anyone know? I'm just not sure that 1150 would keep the heat up.

Thanks,
Dave

Is the rpm governed or not. If it is just an increase in throttle then it wont be governed like our idle is. Just curious

Dave, I think 1500-1800 rpm is a little high for a fast idle. Cummins says that 1100 rpm will maintain combustion temperature. Fuel consumption must be considered.

Jponder, the idle circuit on the ISB is load sensing. The fast idle box is not, therefore the cycling of the intake heater and air conditioner will have an affect on rpm.

In the end, Dodge went slim/shady on the ecm's in our trucks. All these features could have been incorporated into the ecm and we could scrap the vacume cruise control and etc.

The Powerstroke and Duramax both offer a factory high idle option. The ISB in any other application also has all these features just not in the Dodge. Pretty sad.

Cannonball> Oh well that does the same as my throttle cable which sets my petal. It would be cool to have a higher governed setting in addition to High Idle.

I drive a 97 International 4700 with a DT466E at work. It has an electronic throttle/cruise control. On the dash it has a warning "To prevent engine damage maintain 1250 RPM Minimum engine idle in Cold weather using hand throttle" The cruise is pretty neat. I make about 40 stops a day so i never kill the truck. Just hop out and hit the resume button and it automaticly raises the idle to whatever i want. Would like to see something similiar on a dodge
