Amateur Question: what kind of hitch for goose/5th?

In the near future I'll have a new 2005 SRW 3500. I'm thinking about installing a Pullrite Super rail kit. I'm also planning on having a sprayed in bedliner. Question, will a sprayed in bedliner work OK with the Super rail if the bedliner is sprayed in before the hitch install? I may also decide on a different hitch, my main criteria is the whole hitch system must be removable for a flat bed since I also carry a small slide in camper. Thanks in advance...

I would think you would be fine either way. If you prefer to do the bedliner right away, you might want to dab something around the drill holes later for corrosion protection (that's what I did).

You can do the hitch and bedliner in either order, but installing the hitch first has two advantages: (1) It's easier to install the hitch in a bed w/o a liner, (2) The installation of the bedliiner seals the holes for the pins for the SuperRails.

I've been running a flip over gooseneck hitch for awhile now. I pull gooseneck trailers, but I also have a fifth wheel. I bought a 5th wheel/gooseneck adaptor from Pop Up Industries and it has worked great for pulling the fifth wheel. It bolts on to the kingpin of the fifth wheel and stays there. I just back up to the fifth wheel, lower it down on the gooseneck ball and go. When you unhook all you have to do is drive out, flip the ball over and you have a flat bed.

Regarding the hitch/bedliner situation, I agree with klenger. I'd get the hitch put in first and then have them spray the bedliner.

It's worked good for me.

Ron,

Excellent choice of hitches, you won't be dissapointed. As for the bed liner, there is no hurry. If you get a few scratches it won't matter. They scuff all the paint in the bed before they apply the liner anyway. Personally, I would do the hitch first.

Dieselnerd: I have some referal cards from Line-X in Tucson. They did a great job on my truck. :) If you can PM me your postal address, I can send you a referal card and we'll both get $20 for it. :)

Dieselnerd,

On my 04. 5 CTD, I have a Draw/Tite hitch installed for towing my 26' 5th wheel trailer. The kit frame sits on top of the frame secured by (4) 5/8" SAE hardened bolts ( 2 on each side) located on each side on the outer side of the frame kit flanges. Only two holes on the outside on both sides of the frame are drilled. Nuts on the inside of the outer frame are secured to the bolts. This is the HARD part. The weight of the hitch lies on top of the frame and not stressing on the bolts. This drilling is allowable. No welding at all neccessary.

The center of the trailer pin area sits 1 1/2" foreward of the center of the axle in mounting of this kit for best weight distribution on my truck. Not all fifth wheels are mounted centered directly over the center of the axles for best results. This is why slideing 5th. wheels are available. This installation is "fixed".

Line-X was sprayed into the bed before time. This is to the individuals choice. Either before or after is not important.

When the hitch is removed, 4 rubber "pucks" are pushed into the MT holes to keep dirt out. The bed is smooth with no obstruction. This is a neat installation. The four holes incorporate locking cams.

The Co. that installed this unit has been in business for 50 years now. They custom prefab. anything you want to specs. One last comment, if fender liners are installed, it is much easier to remove them for this work. I added the liners later. They really keep these trucks clean. Pull/Rite is a different Co.

Pull-Rite is a good choice. I'm using mine in the second truck and they are good to deal with. As for the bed liner, I was not too happy with Rhino because it is too smooth. Stuff sldes around on it. And then they would not warrenty the liner with the hitch in the back. I found a great product in Florida by Speed-Liner. Excellent! I installed the hitch first so it would be metal to metal, without the liner material in between. Enjoy!
