Hey guys,

I had some work done on my truck which involved pulling the injector pump and all the lines. When they put it back together they couldn't get the injector lines to stop leaking so I told them to replace the lines, o-rings, and delivery tubes. Now all 6 are brand new and #3 and #4 still won't stop leaking. What do I do next? Start pulling injectors? Could they be defective and causing this?? What do ya'll think??

Thanks

It sounds like the fastener torque spec was not followed. Either over or under tightened. You may have to replace those two lines, but do a close inspection of the Injector ends, too.

The lines and delivery tubes are brand new though. I pulled them apart today and cleaned all the ends with scotch brite so we'll see what happens I guess.

The o rings are new. I did not touch the injectors, only the lines and tubes.

Some people believe that when torquing the new tubes that the injectors should be only hand tight, after the tubes and fuel lines are torqued then torque the injectors. When I changed to RV 275s that is the way I did it, and have had no trouble with leaks.

DonFitzwater, the leak is where the injector line meets the head on the outside of the engine.

klcammie, thanks for the tip. I pulled them apart yesterday and used some green scotch brite on the ends and then torqued to 28 ft lbs. #4 has stopped leaking but #3 continued to leak so I went up to about 35 ft lbs and now it only leaks ever so slightly. I was thinking that I may have to pull the injectors and start fresh and use the method you suggested. I have to tear it all apart anyway because the shop screwed up the new tappet cover gasket and it is partway off and I have vapor coming out of it. How do you like the rv275s? I bought my truck with BD Diesel 75hps in it but i only use it for daily driving and have been wondering if i would be better off with the rv275s. how do you like them? what kind of milage are you getting?

Thanks!

FWIW, I put RV275 injectors in my '99 a few years back. With a Smarty, it really woke the truck up. I had Jammer Stage II tips (long story... short story is I'll never, ever, buy from Vulcan Performance again,) they weren't bad, but I think the RV275 injectors worked better. Around 19 mpg commuting at 70 mph, 12.5 mpg on long trips with a trailer (with a Jeep, grossed just under 15k lbs.)

My truck is stock except for the RV 275s Boost elbow and fooler. For me the RV 275s was the best upgrade I have done. Great modest power and mileage. Daily drive 17.4 hwy empty 67 - 70 mph 19.1. If I stay on 2 lanes 55 mph I can get 20.2. I have a 6k bumper pull travel trailer that I get 14.2 to 15.5 most depending on speed. EGT's run about 1175 pulling trailer up hills until I past 20 lbs of boost at 28 lbs they run about 1125. the elbow and fooler really cooled things down.
