Recommendations on best source for new injectors - stock fuel flow. Tired of the rebuilts and shorter life.

any bosche fuel inj shop?? I didn't know these were hard to find. I know that you can rebuild your own with brand new stock tips... for up non/ic guys I think it's our best option

What problems are you seeing from the rebuilts and how long are they lasting?



Unfortunately, getting "new" injectors for the non-IC engines could be a little tough. A rebuilt injector should last as long as or longer than the originals if done correctly.

No real problem finding injectors for the non I/C first gen - all promising more flow, etc. The problem seems to be finding a stock set of new injectors. Rebuilt injectors seem to last around 100,000 miles or 5 years - and this is a fairly common mileage and time frame according to some of the injector techs I have talked to. My first set of injectors that came with the truck lasted 230,000 miles and 10 years - the current set of rebuilts has gone 5 years and 150,000 miles.



My thought was to find a set of new ones and hang on to the removed ones - have them rebuilt and then keep a set of spares on the shelf. As these old mechanical diesels are replaced by the newer electronic versions, someof the parts are starting to get a little difficult to locate.

I'm taking in a pump tomorrow to Norhteast Diesel in jackson to get run on the stand (make sure I put it all back together after my refresh), and I can ask about stock non-IC tips.



One thing to consider is that as the years have passed, fuel quality and lubricity have gone downhill. That can acelerate wear, and possibly explain why the "new" ones dont last as long as the originals.

An update - Correctly rebuilt stock injectors, (new tip, balanced and correct opening pressures, correct closing, tight shut off, etc. , etc. ,) will cost almost the same as new injectors. I would suspect that with the tightening of diesel emission requlations, etc. rebuilds that are correctly done should have almost the same life as new injectors. It is also very hard to find a set of rebuilts on the shelf. Most injector shops that I talked to need the cores and will turn them around in a few days.

That's been my experience around here as well.



Here's my general take on new vs rebuilt... .

New... will be high quality because they will have good manufacturing controls. They should be very consistant.

There are also choices to upgrade with (big plus here)



Rebuilt... depends a lot upon the person doing the rebuild. All manually set up and checked. Will he/she put in all new parts? or reuse some of them? Will they be cleaned well?

Lots of unknowns. Could be excellent, or could be not so excellent.

The best you get is stock.
