New look bug reports

We've tested the new look over the last few days and I think I have all the bugs worked out. If you run into any problems though, please post them here and I'll fix them ASAP.

Steve, when I turn off the borders via the Control panel option, it turns off the borders on the main forum page, but the threads are still in border format.

Ed

You took away the links for "home", "readers rigs", "members services", and all those. Just something I found. :)

Keep up the good work!!!

Andrew

Steve,

I have the same problem Shovelhead has. Turned off the borders but they are still on the threads in the different forums. There is a red border on this page as I type this.

Also just discovered that I can't get to the classifieds from the forum page. Have to go back to the home page. Please bring back the top toolbar on the forum page to allow access from there.

tgbol - The option for keeping a copy of sent PM's was turned off by default about 6 months ago! We turned it off because many people didn't even know about them and were filling up their mailboxes with sent PM's and didn't know where to delete them. If you want to save a copy of your PM's when you are sending one there is a check box at the bottom that says "Save a copy" - you need to check that.

I'll be looking into why the No Borders option isn't working on pages other than the main page tomorrow. Not sure why it isn't working on those because the code is exactly the same!?

The links to the other areas of the website were removed on purpose. One reason was to clean up the forum pages so that the space wasn't used up. Second, I am going to be redesigning the front page next month after the bugs are worked out of this change. When I do that the front page will be more dynamic with your choice of graphics by your generation of truck. Trucks of the day, more news stories, etc. We're hoping that people will use the front page more often - many times we've had stuff on there that people don't see because they don't use the front page. We're going to try to add a bunch of stuff on there so it's used more. If you want a quick link to one of the pages on the site you can easily add it to your links line on your browser.

Rkohn - that would be something not working right with cookies on your machine. What browser are you running and do you have any restrictions to cookies on your machine? Do you have any add on software that restricts cookies in some way?

The "No borders" option should be fixed now. There was an option on the forum settings that was set on some of the forums back when they were first set up (by the last webmaster) that overrode the user settings. I didn't even know that option was there. If anyone has a problem with it please let me know.

Blank page reloads

Steve,

This getting a blank page and having to reload seems to be getting worse as the number of users increases. I had to retry every forum I accessed this last time thru (including the main forum page ) at least three times. I think most Netscape users are using some version of 4. 7 (4. 79 is the latest good version of NS).

I normally navigate the forum using right click and open in a new window for forums and threads. The "go to last post" button does not seem to be working correctly. Each time I've used it with right click, open in a new window, I get the first post.

Loading this post for edit was really really slow. I thought I was going to have to hit reload, but it finally popped up.

Edit also returned me to the first post in the thread instead of the post I edited.

Steve, don't know if it's related to the change but while doing a search after clicking the perform search button it just sits there, I've waited over a minute, if I click again I get the you can only do a search every 30 seconds page. Sort of frustrating.

Joe, after editing it's always loaded real slow for me. The longer the thread the longer it takes, think the server many have to rewrite the whole thread if you make a change. If the post you're editing is the last one in the thread just copy, delete the entire post, and paste it on a new reply with the corrections. Take it from someone who edits a lot of posts, it's much faster.

I've been able to replicate the blank screen problem on Netscape and am working on a solution right now. It's an intermittent problem which is very strange - sometimes it works fine, other times it doesn't. BTW, have I mentioned how much of a MAJOR pain in my back side Netscape is? It is by FAR the hardest browser to get pages to work properly on!

Steve,

I was compelled to switch to IE in order to post a reply to a thread just now. It absolutely refused to load the reply screen in NS even after over ten trys.

I have to use IE at work and am continuely irritated at the user hostile way it works. For example it takes trickery to get it to open a page in another window as full screen. I know how to trick it after a certain amount of fooling around. Right now the font IE insists on using on my screen resolution is microscopic. In some cases the font size being used is overridable, but in many cases the font is set by the web site so I'm stuck.

I'm afraid that if Netscape doesn't come out with a browser version that is better than what they are offering in V6 and V7 I will have to switch but I sincerely don't want to.

Steve,

I'm one of those that never look at the home page. I log on direct to the forum page. If space on the forum page is a problem, put the pop up adds that are there on the home page and put the links back on the forum page.

I suspect there are lots of us that don't look at the home page.

Thanks for cleaning up the borders on the threads.

Just putting a note here (since you want bug reports here) about the top text slider looping for me, at a high rate of speed. I am using Mozilla 1. 2. 1 on win2k. Everything else seems fine, but I did go back to the no borders theme since I think it looks a lot cleaner. I like the new buttons though.

Joe G. - Give Mozilla a shot (www.mozilla.org).

Edit: Looks like you fixed it, it's not scrolling at all now (just nice centered text). Thanks.

The emoticons are not working. I get the error message "the page can not be diplayed" when I click on one to put in my reply.

After HOURS of pouring over the code something I changed fixed the netscape blank page problem. Not really sure what did it but I found a number of errors (tags that were opened but not closed, tags in the wrong location, etc) in the templates that were there in the original site as well as the new site and after I fixed all of those it fixed the netscape problems. I worked on it for a few hours last night, gave up, and picked it back up this morning. I've been browsing the forums using netscape for the last couple of hours catching up on all the threads I missed while working on the update and haven't had a screen fail to load yet.

MMclain - I just tried the smilies in both IE and Netscape and they are working fine for me. What browser are you running?

Mozilla evidentally doesn't support the slide behavior in a marquee so I have disabled the marquee and just made it into centered text.

If you guys would just give in and admit that Gates won the war my job would be soooo much easier! ;) LOL

I switched. I still use Netscape 4. x to make my web pages, but that's it. IE seems faster. Every morning, I get out of bed, face Redmond, get on my knees, and worship Bill Gates. NOT.
