Well I got Bored last night and created a maintenance schedule for our CTD. I have an 06 but it is good for at least the 3rd gens.

The schedule is based on what the owners manual suggests, with the exception of oil changed at 5,000 mile intervals. This is the first version, so it is subject to change. As of right now I don't have the means of uploading the file on a server for anyone to download. (if anyone is willing to host the file or show me how to get it posted that would greatly appreciated)

I am more that happy to e-mail you a copy if you request one. Please e-mail me at -- email address removed -- for your copy. The file is a 120kb. Excel file

Feel free to provide your input, make any changes or just tell me to drive off a cliff :-laf

While we're on the subject of maintenance, I replace my fuel filters on a 300-hour (stock) and 150-hour (secondary) interval. I do this because it makes more sense to me than doing it by mileage.

But it dawned on my last month that oil changes also might make more sense on an hour basis rather than mileage. Does anyone do this?

There was a member that posted a while back that speculated that chaning the oil based on gallons of fuel burned would be a good way to do it. Actually makes a lot of sense to me as that would reduce the interval when towing heavy. In my case, my milage / fuel over time is pretty consistant, so it wouldn't make all that much difference how I measured it.

I have some more coments on fluid change intervals, but I'm too tired right now to go into it.

I updated my schedule in post #2. Click on the image or here to get a readable view.

One of the problems that I struggled with is the recommended schedule B service interval for front and rear axles. 15,000 miles seems like it's way overkill, considering that there is no recommended service at all for the axles on Schedule A. Also, there is no recommended service for the NV5600 transmission on either schedule, but the G56 is 120k and 60k for schedule A and B respectively. I drive pretty close to 12,000 miles / year, so for me, this schedule has me performing a complete fluid change every two calendar years. I can live with that. The schedule is also a bit more conservative that the recommended schedules for oil & filter, fuel filter, and air filter changes.

Might want to break out the schedule for the three trannys (Auto, G56, NV5600) with fluid specs... Thanks for the work... ;)

That's why the Excel worksheet is available, so that each person can modify it for their own use. I suppose I could mention that the trans in this sheet is for the NV5600, just in case someone tries to use the spec'd fluid in the wrong trans.

Nobody replaces their brake fluid? You know, that stuff goes bad with age. It also absorbs moisture, and this moisture causes corrosion in the master cylinder and calipers, as well as lines and fittings. It should be replaced every three years or so.

I guess I figure that brake fluid could be changed whenever a major brake job is done, so no need to put it on the schedule. Actually, I didn't think of that at the time I was making the schedule, but that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Good answer Klenger.

Most people don't do major brake jobs; they simply change pads and turn the rotors (maybe), which is not really a major brake job (rebuilding calipers and master cylinder).

Also, doing a brake job - major or minor - is more mileage and wear related. And as you know, those who have e-brakes can go for 100k+ miles without servicing their brakes. Like engine coolant, the deterioation of brake fluid is more time based.

Oh, and where is the mileage interval for changing spark plugs? :-laf

the Brake and PS flush intervals were not added because it was not mentioned in the owners manual. What is nice about the schedule is that it is easy to edit. Do what you want with it, like I said I was bored not perfect :)
