Exhaust Leak????

Hi,

First of all let me say that I'm really glad to have joined such a fine message board. I have been browsing topics for several weeks now and its nice to finally be able to post my own! :)

Anyway, I'm looking for a 91-93 W250 4x4 and I have a few questions about a '91 that I looked at today. Its a 5spd, 4x4 reg cab, 136k...

1. The rear of the truck did not look as if it had a lift, that is, it did not seem higher than a stock truck. However, there were fairly sizeable blocks(maybe 3"+ tall) between the spring pack and the axle. What is the stock config on these trucks? The blocks don't look factory but the truck doesn't look lifted either. there was definitely no lift that I could tell in the front --flat springs and everything looked normal. Something just didn't seem right. Can somebody straighten me out on this?

2. There seemed to be a little slack in the driveline --for example let's say at about 45mph in 4th let of the throttle and the truck would lurch a bit; defintely noticeable but not too harsh. Same thing going from no throttle to throttle on. I had an '89 5spd 4Runner that would do the same thing. I always assumed it was probably the U-joints getting worn but could it be something else in transmission/rear end etc? Is this alarming?

3. Should the 91 grill say Dodge on it? This one was blank --replacement or is that how they were that year??

I would really appreciate any info! Thanks!!

Paul

Welcome aboard,

The blocks are normal, 93 has 6" block.

It sounds normal to me as the u- joints take a pounding from all the torque. I only get about 2 - 3 years out of a set before I replace them. The grills haven't changed much and are plain jane too.

Welcome,

I'm not positive about the '91 grills but the '93 does have the Dodge letters on it. If you go with an aftermarket grill they will be without the letters, something that Dodge won't allow the aftermarket people do.

I just looked at my 91. 5 (intercooled) and it has the 3"+ blocks on the rear and DODGE on the front grill at the top. I also would guess that the lurch is probably bad u-joints.

I'm new to the Cummins/Dodge and will probably be learning alot more than teaching for a while, but this is a question I can answer...

My '92 has "DODGE" lettering on the grill, and I believe it is stock with regard to ride height and it does have blocks out back.
