New info on power loss

Just joined the TDR and...

I have been around diesels for a while farming: Deutz, John Deere, International (Harvester that is), etc, etc, but my Dodge is the first Cummins I have ran and I am tickled to death with it. I have done some mild BOMBing to it with more in the future, so I figured I better get some gauges, I have a EGT gauge on the way and have read about placing it pre-turbo and post-turbo, is there any advantage of one over the other? Post-turbo looks easier, what do you all think?

Welcome to the TDR !

Post turbo is easier to install, easier to drill the elbow, and no shavings to worry about. Also better for watching shut-down temps.

Pre-turbo is a more accurate indication of whats going on inside the engine, just harder to drill the manifold. Most guys usually go pre-turbo. That's what i would recommend.

If you really want to,you can get another probe, and use a switch to check both pre and post turbo,or run two gauges to keep an eye on both.

Do a search on EGT gauges and you'll have a bunch of good stuff to read, and all the info you ever wanted.
