New to TDR. First time on forum so I hope someone can help. I have a 97 3500 dually. When I engage 4x4 it sounds like a hub is not fully engaging as it makes quite a clatter. Dosen't seem to make a difference if in 4 low or high but gets louder the faster you go. It still seems to pull. Some have told me transfer case others hubs. Since its my only driver and I haven't a lot of coin perhaps one of you out there can help me nail this down. Thanks in advance... ... ..... Don

Yes I have. they seem solid . Thought perhaps linkage issue but that too seems good . I am thinking hubs or transfercase but not quite sure how to test either. I GUESS PUTTING THE TRUCK UP ON BLOCK and engageing 4x4 to see if everything turns and too find out where the noise is comming from. A freind of mine reminded me to check fluids. Haven't done that yet. Thanks for your responce... ... ..... Don

Welcome Aboard Mr Tipping... ... .....

I have moved your post to the 2nd Generation Forum... ..... you will get more answers here.

Merry Christmas!

I'd bet front driveshaft or front axle u-joints... ... it only does it in 4wd? And if it's pretty fast, even when moving slow, I'm gonna go with front driveshaft... ...

No it dosen't. It still seems to pull although the faster you go the louder it gets even if you turn. Checked fluid levels all are good and clean. Checked drive shafts to and from transfercase and all seems solid. Thinking Hubs but haven't pulled then to see if they are sticking.

Hubs aren't going to only make noise in 4wd. My money is on your CAD. Is the 4wd light coming on and staying on? Also the little pads on the CAD fork will wear out and not properly lock the axles. The CAD vacuum diagram will suck up water and not work properly. If it is the CAD or CAD fork, go with the Posi-loc cable actuator. Good luck and please keep us posted.
