New member needs info

I bought my last new Dodge in 2002. I hate to say it but I never should have left Mother Mopar. I had a business relationship with our local Ford store so I wanted to reciprocate. I have bought three new Fords from them since 2002. The 7. 3 was a decent truck but the two 6. 0's have done a number to me. I am ready for another truck and have decided to go back to Dodge. I know a lot has changed since 02' and I was hoping you guys could let me know what I am in for. How many miles are you getting out of the auto transmissions? Any wierd problems with the 4x4 systems? Are the brakes any better?



I have had a 95 2x 2500, 98 2x3500 24v, 00 2x3500 24v and the 02 4x3500 24v.



My only complaints about the trucks were transmissions and brakes. The 95 and 98 were especially bad on brakes. The 2000 and 2002 were better on brakes but still not great. I put transmissions in most of the trucks every 100k or so.

All I can say is get a 2006 before December, or else your going to have to deal with all the new regulations. Unless you want to try out the new 6. 7. But I would recomend staying with the 5. 9, I love mine.

I tow with mine just about every day, 6k - 7k, backhoe and work trailer. Auto works real well, especially when trying to back up very steep driveways, every one seems to have. I have towed 14k - 15k occasionally, never had any problem. The 3rd gens went to larger brakes from what I understand, ( my first CTD ). Stops extremely well, had a brake failure on a 25' fifth wheel, wiring burned up, towed it for a friend who has a wrecker service, he towed the Ford off.

My 06 is light years ahead of my 97 as far as brakes and transmission go. With the exhaust brake, I anticipate many miles of uneventful stopping with the stock pads and rotors. The transmission has a tow/haul/lockout system that, for me, performs very well. Once you get it down when to use it and get used to how it works, it's great. The only thing I wish I did get was the old school pull handle on the hump for 4x4. I had one little glitch in the switch, but I think the glitch originated in my brain. After reading the directions , I've had no more problems. Go with an 06, you'll love it!
