I am a new member to this forum. Hello fellow CTD owners. I have a 96 CTD 4x4,auto,e-cab,3. 5 gears, that is stock. Yesterday I drove a friends 01 CTD 2x4,auto,e-cab,3. 5 gears. The difference in performance is less than stellar. I think I have the 160 hp CTD. What can I do to increase the power of the truck and not break the bank(or have to sleep on the sofa)? I do not want to put lots of money into this. Do you get good hp/torq from moving the stock plate? How much? Or should I go for the after market plate? Or would a set of injectors be better? I put a high flow muffler on a few months ago. Thanks everyone for all answers. BoDiesel

First gauges; boost and EGT (before some reminds us).

Plate should be good enough if you don't want to spend a lot.

If you intend to have more power than a TST #6 plate (230HP) then you have to do something about the transmission. You really should do that anyway, but for a little over $300 or so you can get the TST plate. As Bill points out you will need a couple of gages. Geno's has a nice combo gage that has both EGT and boost. That will give you a nice gain in performance without breaking the bank.



Forgot to mention. I think you have the 180HP in the '96 model. Not sure, but you can check the dataplate on the gearcase near where the injection pump is mounted to make sure.

Get some guages to monitor, a plate to turn up the wick, and let your exhaust breath... you wont BELIEVE the difference! (and the mileage improvement! )
