Hey guys I'm a new member and I'm glad to be here. This site kicks BUTT!! Anyways, I had my p7100 rebuilt after my engine fire and I was wondering if filling my fuel filter with Lucas Fuel Conditioner before i fired her up would be enough to prevent from dry-starting the pump. Iwant to make sure I do everything right when i do this and one more question, where exactly is the thermostat? I dont have any clue as to where it is because ive never had to deal with it before I guess? I would appreciate your thoughts on these questions.

Thanks in advance, Nick

I'm not a fan of fuel conditioners and other additives. I would loosen the banjo fitting on the side of the pump on the line from the fuel filter. Then use the manual pump button on the lift pump to charge the system with fuel. When there are no more bubbles tighten the fitting. It might take a while with the button but all the fuel that gets to the injection pump will be filtered. If you pour anything in the filter it will NOT be filtered before it gets to the pump because the center of the filter is the clean side. The pump is not actually dry inside after overhaul anyway.

The t-stat is at the top of the engine near the front. Its under the thermostat housing. The housing is where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine.

T-stat

Remove Serp. belt, loosen Alt bolts to allow you room to remove the three bolts holding the housing on, remove top radiator hose, then remove the three bolts holding the housing on. There ya go, you have found the thermostat.

In re-assembling the new parts I found it a bear to keep the t-stat and gasket where they belong, so I cut the head off a couple 8mm bolts, slotted the ends so I could use a screwdriver to install. Slide the new parts in position then the housing over the studs and install the bottom bolt, remove studs and install top bolts. This makes the job much easier. :D

Again thanks alot for your help guys, you guys are awesome, I just got the rest of my parts this morning and I am going to work on my beast now, that all for now. Hopefully my baby will be done tonight or tomorrow as long as bleeding the injector lines doesn't take too long.

thank you, Nick

Dry Start ...

By installing a "security" switch in your ignition's electrical path you can make it so that the truck does NOT start.

This is done as a security lockout AND for prelubing the engine after it has sat for an extended period of time or has recently been overhauled - as in your case.

Try searching the TDR threads for a security lock-out switch to see what wire to interrupt.

Best of Luck.
