Hello Everyone , My name is Pete here in NW Ohio and I am a proud new owner of a 2002 CTD, traded in my 96 1500 for this beast and have been smiling ever since. Joined your website here and have been doing a lot of reading about the in's and out's of CTD ownership. Very first thing I have done is bought a set of gauges for the pillar to keep an eye on things. Ended up with Isspro EV pyro, boost and fuelpressure, did the install today, all went well. boost and pyro seem to be running where they are suppost to from reading various post, the fuelpressure however is another matter. Installed with banjo on bottom of filter housing, used isolator, all readings are steady, no vibration. on initial start up shows around 12 psi in idle, but after about a minute or so drops of sharply to around 5 psi or so might stay there for a couple of minutes and go right back up to 11 psi for highway cruise, stays there for a while and drops to 1 psi, and after a while go back up to 11 or so. Keeps cycling like this at about 4-5 minute intervals, when the pressure rises or drops, it if fairly quick, like turning the engine off. no change in other engine parameters. At first I thought maybe airbubles, but pressure is pressure right? I assume that my liftpump is the source of my trouble (38000 miles) but the only doubt that I have is that it does not seem to be a typical failure. Any comments?? Also for warrenty work on the engine, can I go to a Cummings dealer or do I have to go to a Dodge dealer?

looking forward to tap this great Collective knowledge base

Thanks Pete

Sounds like you have a lift pump going south. Trip to Dodge Dealer is in order, if it has less than 100K on the clock. If over that, buy a pump at a Cummins Dealer and learn to change it yourself. Welcome to TDR, fill out your signature in your profile. :) SNOKING :)

OK, thanks for the Info, I will see if I can convince them at the dealer that it is not working correctly, and I did update my Signature

Also sounds like cavitation of the lift pump - they can do that if there is too much restriction to flow, and readings can do as yours are. If you haven't already, I'd change the fuel filter to eliminate that as a possible restriction, and see what effect it has on stabilizing readings.

Thanks for all the help guy's, talked to the dealer and he did did not give me any confidence that he knew what he was doing, went next door to Cummings bought a pump, some washers and a fuelfilter, 1 hr later all was well, readings now steady @15 psi, 13 in cruise. I am by no means an engineer, but that is sure one poor install. Between location(heat and vibration) , size, the amount of Banjo fittings in the system (Restrictive) and some undersized wiring by the looks of it, I am suprized it runs as long as it does. Time to look for something a little better. Btw Jackson as about 1. 5 hrs away, would love to come on over, but the weekend is already booked solid, thanks anyway.

Pete
