Howdy, I just found & joined TDR. In one morning of surfing, I've already got my $35 worth of information, woohooo! What a great site. Anyway, we bought my wife a new 2006 Ram, so I got her 91. It came off her families wyoming ranch and it is totally stock and in great condition with ~100,000 miles. I sold my 94' Chevy smoker and get to spend the $$ on my new pride & joy Ram! So far today I've ordered a shop manual from Automobile books, (which is now $99 for members) and a Borgeson steering shaft (replaced with stock kit 2 years ago & already worn out again). I'm going to town today to find a gauge cluster. Is there a piller cluster for the gen 1's available like I see for the newer trucks?

Looking forward to many other mods soon. Later today I'm ordering ARB airlockers for front & rear. Also plan to lift 2-4" to hopefully improve the ride quality (& looks of course), 33x12. 5 rubber & will be looking for a snow plow.

I'd also like to find a nice fitting fiberglass canopy. Any good input on a brand or model would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help..... Any of you guys from Alaska?

Later RR.

Congrats

Pillar pod mounts are available in one (single mount) or two gauge mount. Geno's Garage or PDR. Look in the links on this site. Should be up at the top. You will find an inventory of dealers.

If you have the flat column there is a column mount (single) gauge pod available. Fit's the 1991. ? up to 2000+ m. y.

Dash mounts also... ... two to four gauge I believe.

When your looking at pillar mounts. If you are a shorter person the ProPod model has the gages at a more upright stance. This makes them a little hard to see. The Autometer brand has a better angle on the gages.

Welcome to the TDR.

Welcome

RR:

Welcome aboard... ... ..... these guys are a little zany and sometimes aloof :D , but they sure know their stuff. And be careful... ... ... ... ... ... . they're instigators :-laf

Plus they want PICS.

Good luck,

Thanks for the warm welcome! I feel at home already.

I'm placing an order for a pillar gauge mount today from Geno's. Any advise on guage brand or type? Also wondering what range boost gauge to get, 0-30 or 0-60? Thanks again fur the help. RR

BTW..... ARB F&R air lockers should be ordered by the end of the day. woohoo!

oooh, 1 more ????. What range pyrometer should I install. I see auto meter to 1600 deg. Dont think I would still be watching the gauge if it gets to 1600 deg! RR

Ok, Im too impatient to wait for replies, so I ordered the 2-gauge pillar mount, auto meter "NV" boost 0-35 & pyro 0-1600 gauges from Geno's. Thanks again Greenleaf!

BTW, I showed my wife this forum last night and she is a little worried about our financial future now! :-laf

ISSPRO have generally the best price and seem to operate well. Autometer is another.

If you don't modify much you will never see 30 psi. The 30 will work well and the gauge will read with in it's proper range. The 60 lb gauge will not work well if you only see 10 psi on a regular basis. If you modify the snot out of it then you may want the 60 lb even though it only reads like 1. 5/2. 5 psi increments.

Don't worry about the pyro range. You will not operate above 1400/1500°F much if ever unless you really want to ;)

she is a little worried about our financial future now

She is a preceptive lady. She knows you have no self control... . like the rest of this bunch. :-laf

Oh yes... and welcome to the loony bin.

If you need more gauges PM member Blacksheep4x4, he has good prices and service. He did real good by me!

Tell the wife to get a better job, you're gonna need it if you hang here! :-laf

PToombs, I'll tell her that & I'm sure she'll remind me that she already makes more $$$ than I do!

I do feel kinda bad though, cause she drove this truck for the last 5 or 6 years and I really made no attemp to improve it. Now I've had it 1 week and the money is already pouring outta my pocket like water.

Guess I'll need to spend a little time & effort on her new truck, that might help me not look like such a jerk! Talk to you guys later... RR.

Don't put go fast stuff on her truck! If she beats you you'll never hear the end of it! " I make more money and my truck is faster!" :-laf

Better yet, take her to dinner or some thing nice, don't actually spend money on her truck. ;)

(It's a good thing my wife doesn't read these, she would kill me!) :D

I would've gone for at least a 40psi gauge, but you get whatcha got. I pegged the 40psi gauge on my early 91 on a regular basis. I can hit 30spi now, and have a near stock pump (but not injectors).

Put the pyrometer probe in the manifold, just rearward of center. It is a split manifold, so you want to avoid the middle.

You may look into some 19. 5 tires- good looking on pics of the few I've seen on 1st Gens. Plus, they last a LOT longer. And, with the 1st Gen suspension ,ride quality is a non-issue.

Welcome to the TDR. We can give you a multitude of ideas of what to spend any excess (and not so excess) money on.

My girlfriend makes more money than I do, you're not alone there. But I can still outrun her in my pickup- she only has an 04 Dakota.

Thanks for the pyrometer install info dpuckett, I'll be needing to do just that next week. I probably should of held off on ordering the boost gauge til I got more feed back. I guess I can replace it later if needed.

I just ordered a ARE canopy yesterday, should get it in 4 weeks. I may wait on new tires & wheels til next summer, since I'l lbe putting the studs on next month anyway.

Still trying to decide on a traction device too. I really want the ARB's front & rear. But $2k is pretty spendy. Havnt ruled it out yet though.

BTW PToombs, her truck is already faster than mine stock, so I wont be getting any more go fast stuff for that one. Maybe just some look good kinda stuff!
