hello-i'm a new member but i've been nosing around for a couple of months now. my 2001. 5
2500 QC SWB 4x4 is finally on order. i've got a bunch of questions but i'll be gentle and only ask a couple now. i'm getting a 5spd, so i know that i need a pyrometer and i should probably have a boost gauge, is there any other gauge that i should have? if so, what? also as funds are limited what should
i plan to bomb first for better economy--not
towing yet... but...
thanx for all you help and ideas!!

Welcome! The other gauge to round out how things are operating would be to monitor fuel pressure. Lift pumps as you may be aware have been showing signs of weakness. I think it's a good investment to know what is happening in that department.
Dave

Welcome aboard. I agree with Dave that a fuel pressure guage would take care of all that you should need to monitor.

Welcome tntway,
I'm not sure if your username is your first two initials plus your last name or if it's two words like "TNT" "WAY", but as you can see in my signature, the reason for my curiosity. #ad

The TDR is a great place to find answers on just about anything. These are a great bunch of folks who are glad to help and it makes no difference if you're a new owner or been driving these Cummins for years.

WELCOME to the TDR!!! Sounds like your off to a good start with buying a Ram diesel. Always remember real trucks are inlines!! I would have to agree with the above. Fuel pressure gauge.

What size NPT connector is needed on the 2001. 5 ETH? I too need to add gauges.

I wish I could get oil pressure/fuel pressure combo like the Trubo PSI/EGT combo gauge.

Joe, you can get the combo guage you want in an SPA digital. I think the 01 use a schraeder valve and that you need an adapter to get an NPT fitting to work.

If your thinking of the SPA gauge, you can get the gauge here http://www.performancediesel. bigstep.com/category.html?UCIDs=578092%7C579181

and you can purchase the adapter for the Schrader from this man http://www.mypage.onemain.com/Brandon&Danelle/

Performance Diesel is owned/operated by HVAC. The other link is to Brandon's site. I have dealt with both and assure you that you will not be disappointed.

The adapter needed to install the boost sensor in the manifold is 3/4" NPT to 1/8" NPT. I went to install the step down connector in the manifold, and the outside hex head hits the manifold. So I got a 3/4" Brass plug with a male square drive. I drilled a 5/16" hole through the square plug and tapped it for 1/8" NPT. You can get the plugs at any hardware/plumbing supply store.
