Hello everyone...
Well, I've been "spying" on everyone here for a few months now trying to figure out what to get when I upgraded to a diesel pickup. I've got to start with a big thanks for all the information I've gathered here. Because of everyone's insight, I just bought a new '04 (see sig) a couple days ago. I'll drive down and get the new ride tomorrow (dealer is getting the box line-x, running boards, mud flaps... )
My previous pickup was a 2002 GMC 2500HD 6. 0L gas, auto, 4. 10's. I've had very good luck with her and had full intentions of doing the Duramax/Allison thing. After a lot of research both here and on the "Diesel Page" discussion board I came to the conclusion that the Cummins is a MUCH better engine, and that Dodge has come a long way in terms of ride and cab quality.
The pickup that I bought was the only one I could find with the options I needed (3. 73's, LWB, 4x4, Quad Cab), and I was surprised to see that it was still the "old" HO (305/555). I was quite aware of the differences and I think I'm going to enjoy this configuration. I'm thinking the economy is going to be better and I would not tolerate a cat. on the exhaust (my wife's uncle, also a farmer, burnt up his pickup last fall due to wheat straw getting trapped between the cat and heat shield). Anyway, like I said I'm pretty happy with my decision and can't wait to bring her home for good tomorrow. Thanks again for everyone's help!
