First time on site as member. I am looking to boost engine performance in my 97' 215hp. My main concerns are egt's and engine durability. I need this truck to last. I am not towing heavy right now but might be within the next year or so. Planning on autometer gauges first off. Should i go with a plate or injectors? what size? All info would be very helpful.

Welcome to the TDR BTighs, i would suggest a #10 and slide it towards the firewall to start with and a 3kgsk, you will not belive it's the same truck. And gauges are first option if you don't have them already. Be careful when the bombing bug starts to BITE it can get out of hand pretty easy. Oo.

nfox has a good suggestion there. Gauges are mandatory before any changes though. I would also recommend, as a cheap but significant upgrade, to get a BHAF (fleetguard pn# AH19037), and a turboshield from fostertruck.com. The shield isnt 100% necessary, but I feel it protects the filter more in hot weather. And depending on what your clutch condition is, I would start saving for another. Not tough to burn em up with added HP.

Welcome to the TDR. Any questions you may have, use the search option in the upper right hand corner of the window first. There is -so- much info here, its not possible to read it all.

good luck

thanks for the advise. I'll look into those gauges first. is the KDP jig the fix that involves drilling and tapping a hole to block the pin. I need to get this fixed ang i think thats the way i want to go. what about a #12 plate? i also want to ad some dd2 injectors in the future. thanks

Where in the country are you located btighe? I maintain the list for the NorthEast KDP Jig, which is the kdp fix you are referring to. The jig just went out to a member, but it will be available in about 3 weeks. I could add ya to the list if you're interested. click on my name and send me a private message if you want to do that.

A #12 plate isnt too bad. . tho i`d recommend an 11 or 10 which has a good bit more adjustment to it. Theyre all the same price, so why skimp. . theres always adjustments that can be made up or down. .

I've been reading all the plate threads for a while now and I can't decide between a #11 and a #10. I've got my gauges installed now and put a BHAF in back in the summer. I don't tow much but when I do it's 10k lbs+. When I do the plate, I'll do a 3K GSK at the same time.

My truck only has 60k miles and a stock clutch with 4:10 rearend.

What I really want is more mid-range get up and go, 1600-2000 rpm. It really pulls now at 2000+.

I don't really want to do the clutch right away, will I be happy with the #11?

Maybe someone could provide a summary of the fuelling characteristics of all the plates.

Thanks and Merry Christmas,

Terry

The #11 plate was a VERY nice setup in my 215 hp truck. I was very hesitant to change it, for fear that it would make the truck not run as well at the lower RPM ranges. ( it just ran dam sweet with it in there) However the #10 is just about as nice as the #11 down low and WAY hotter in the mid range. Only down side to the #10 is BY BY clutch :-( BTW both were installed in the stock positions. If you get a TST plate they will "upgrade" you to another for $50 any time you want ( that's what I did ) So start with the #11 and save your clutch for a bit and see if you can live with the nice improvement or .....
