Newbs 1st post, lift pump?

Engine difference: 2010-2012 cummins 3500 vs 5500

Hey everyone I've had my truck for a few years now and love it. I've always want a cummins and now that I have it I pray I never have to have anything but a cummins. I learned a lot about my truck since I got it or so I thought. I recently found out everything I thought I knew was complete bs. I found this forum yesterday and spent about 10 hrs reading different posts on 05 5.9 and realized I know nothing lol. You guys are a great wealth of knowledge and I'm so glad i found ya'll. I know if anyone can help me I'll find them here.

I learn something every time I log on in just a few minutes of reading! Great forum with good people and knowledge from experience. Owned the truck in my signature since it was new for 19 years!

Sounds gorgeous. I'm just so glad 1 the info here is accurate 2 it's info based on fact from research and experience and not just opinions and bs

I'm at 252,000 + miles and everything is in very good condition except for the drivers seat. Started showing light wear two summers ago and it is WORN OUT now. Leather surfaces and the foam/seat cushions! Planning on some new leather and foam this year! Hope to get to the 400,000 mile mark in the future. Sounds like your truck is and has been serving you well with almost 400K. Enjoy every mile.

It's been great the water pump actually exploded and was in multiple pieces which damaged one the mounting bolt holes on the block. Other that it's in great condition almost no blow by. Sounds great looks great. Interior is almost flawless only issues are the 12 power port on the left of the a/c fell out, tiny crack on the original dash and 1" wear crack on console. The transmission on the other hand has been hell and no one has been able to help. But I still love her and couldn't imagine losing her!

How many miles on truck when the water pump exploded? Fortunately the dash is not yet cracked and other than the drivers seat the interior has help up very well. The leather seats are very hot in the summer and I'm considering trying some seat covers along with repairing the original seat materials. There is a recent thread discussing seat covers with some good information.

Around 375k. The thing was bad luckily it happened in front of a diesel ship and I just got paid. They said they had never seen that happen. They fixed it I got home 20 miles later park and get out and all of a sudden a coolant water fall. So they fixed it again.

Wow! I'm considering replacing the original water pump this summer aong with a cooling system flush when installing a serpentine belt and service the belt tensioner. Not fun at all to have a coolant water fall. Could have been bad! Was it a bad replacement pump? Bad seal? Bad install due to damaged threads??

Honestly I don't know. I caught them in some lines the next visit but they said the reason it failed was due to the damaged hole they just crammed the bolt in. The way I was told it was repaired after the waterfall was they drilled out the damaged hole and threaded it to accept a larger bolt. My new diesel shop says the holes and bolts are identical to the factory ones. So I'm not sure.... yes it could have been much worse thankfully I heard it and pulled into the gas station next to the diesel shop saw the problem and moved 100 ft to the diesel shop and had it fixed so no overheating.

Good to hear it worked out in the end and it is fixed properly & no overheating!! Which might e easy to do on a HOT day in the beautiful State of Texes! Thank you for the details.

Glad to have someone interested in hearing about it. The 2 friends I have don't have trucks nor do they give 2 ****s lol. Now if I can get people to reply to the trans post I'll be set.

Oh I know and understand completely about interest. Someone who knows about transmissions will reply soon. Hope everything works out for you and your truck.
