New Mexican emissions testin'

So i will be moving to NM this summer and i see that in Albuqurque (sp) diesels just get the "can we smoke test". . do they also inspect the exhaust for the cat? just wondering...

Ya, i will be movin on to Kirtland with the wife. She gets her commission this summer. I called the smog folks said they just looked for smoke, then gave a thubs up if none. then you are exempt for ever... sounds kinda nice!

I bought my truck in CO, went to the DMV (on Kirtland AFB) and registered it. They never asked me about an inspection. Although a few years ago my buddy bought a '95 Ford at a local dealer and he did need to get the one-time inspection. So it will likely be "luck of the draw" for what you might need to do.

I've never heard of anyone ever inspecting a diesel truck for smoke. Gasser, yes. They may be just blowing smoke up your skirt.

I had a Kirtland AFB vehicle pass sticker on my, then, 95 Dodge all the time I owned the truck and never once was my truck inspected for anything by the base or MVD. I've never had a base pass on my 05.

here in ct. they test for smoke,they call it opacity. had to test every 2 years

Grizzly just curious, do you actully live in Albuquerque city limits, B/C I lived in Edgewood for 25 years and in Albuquerque before that, and I had to have Both my '99 and my '04. 5 checked at both the City and KAFB before I could get a sticker to go on KAFB. Didn't have to have it if I wasn't needing to go on the base, but I was told that even if you live in Albuquerque(city limits) there's no emissions but there is a smoke check.

I live in the Far North Valley, which is not in the City limits. Since I retired in the late 90's, I haven't had to go on base.

Just curious. The last time I had to get a base pass was in 2004 and then I had to go to both Alb. City(off 2nd Street I Believe) and get checked out at the base before they would even give me the Damn thing, but since I lived outside the city limits I never had to get it done, just to go on KAFB.

ya, i plan on talking to them more on monday. but it looks like even though i will keep my truck reg here in idaho. i just need to get tested for the base. but i might reg it there in NM. just debating on a full flow 5" cat or making the stock one take on/take off .

Moved to NM last year

Moved to Santa Fe NM last year, all they did was inspect the vin#. Same thing with the gasser 4Runner. No smog up here whatsoever.

Don't worry about the accessories, (exhaust etc). You may have to get a one time inspection for the military, but the city could care less about diesels...
