Why dont you buy that scout I told you about? The one with the nissan turbodiesel? that would be cool, and different. And your a scout guy anyways.

you said it was like 4000 wasnt it? thats a lil more than i want to spend, and then i am going to have to mod on top of that? hmm

I think he said 3500 with the winch and 2500 without the winch (he seems to think a warn 8274 is worth 1,000$!!!! crazy).

Yeah, but think: the 7?-85 toyota is carb'd, the diesel is injected. It will even run upside down, which is a trait you could use! :-laf

Plus it should already have D-44's, right? and it has a T-18 and dana 300, I believe. as you know the 300 is great, I dont have a clue about a T-18 though. I bet if you offered him 2K w/o the winch, it would be yours. then I will offer him 250$ for the winch and buy it.

the same guy had a psd a while back that was a 94 with like 150K on it and he wanted like 19,000$!!! he eventually took like 10,000$. I can get more info if you want it.

Yeah, Jeff keep us posted on the bio-diesel thing. Did you brew it yourself already? Do you have to do anything to the truck to make it work? It'll be interesting now that you have gauges so you can monitor EGT. Wonder if that will be different?

Other Jeff and everyone else: I'm amazed at the membership list! I must have gone to sleep and missed a few months progress. If I can ever figure out why we would have club expenses, we could discuss setting up an account and starting to collect dues. I guess if we ever sponsor or help sponsor an event, we would likely have expenses. The trick will be figuring out a way to make money on the deal. One thing about sponsoring any kind of public event is liability insurance. None of us can afford to lose everything because of an injury or car crash etc. Good news is that it isn't super expensive to get a million dollar policy. Yuck... business stuff.

that would really be a steal if it had the engine from a maxima in it. :D

freakin hilarious, he he i may have to think about that, and yea i want an 85 toy so i can have both efi and solid axle

Oh so now it went from getting a 79-85 toy, to now narrowing it to a 85? picky picky picky.

nice, Warren. I cant believe how many people have pm'd me when they saw my sig and the NM part. It really does help.

any updates on Bio yet, Jeff?

Been running the bio for a couple of months now. Seems as though everything is fine. Just wish B20 wasn't the only choice. Do any of you guys have aftermarket flares on your truck? If so, could you please post a pic and what brand they are. I keep filling my door rockers & door posts with mud & dirt. Tires hang out just a little to much.

Sorry I have not posted some links. I read <ALOT> about bio, making it, using it, and benefits of it the other night. I will put a list of links at the end of this entry. Interest in it: I have tried to read up on this stuff before but found it to be co$t inhibitive for the average user. Googling "biodiesel" will bring up alot of sites. There are as you might expect, movie stars promoting it, environmentalists promoting it etc. There are marketed systems to make it but they co$t around $3000!! I stopped reading at that point although my interest has remained. Last week I saw an entry on dieselram [dot] com about it. This guy makes it. So I asked some questions and much to my surprise the answer said don't even look at pre-made systems. You can make it with an "OLD HOT WATER HEATER" WHAT???? Cost = $150!!!! WoW, I can even afford that for a toy!!! Alright so now I kept reading, following links. I found some forums dedicated to this and an entry by a guy who bought a 2001 HO with a story that I decided was enough for me to think about using it. Ok so now I am thinking about actually trying this stuff out. Further searching landed me at BlueSunOil. Wow, they'r making this stuff in plants?!-and they have it in Durango. I decided to give it a try since I had a day to kill and 1/8 tank in my truck. I talked to the guy at the Exxon station in Durango that sells the stuff. He said just put it in, alot of fleet vehicles are using it he said, they say it smells a little fruity but everyone is saying they like it. He said they claim an increase in mpg. Well, what da heck. I filled up and drove it home. Yea it is a little fruity smelling. I'm still in my first tankfull but here is what "I think" I'm noticing. Onboard computer thinks I am getting avg: 20mpg, normally is 17 (there is great arguement about accuracy of this device but for referrence, mine ALWAYS reads 17, taking with a grain of salt). EGT might be a little less, maybe 100 but that is such a varying measurement time will tell on it. I think the truck may be a little more responsive, wishfull thinking? dunno but I am going to get more. Right now I think my truck likes it. (Hey Mikey, I think he likes it). Right now my plan is to try to exclusively burn it to see what happens. I am pulling the 5'r to Denver in a few weeks and if Ican I'm going to try to us B20 to see how it pulls. Making it: This will surely be down the road but here are some links that certainly captured my attention. $150 certainly permits "backyard" cooking of the stuff, either with used oil or new clean oil if the cost of d2 keeps going up.

Jeff,

Nice post. well done. I had not checked out any bio diesel sites before, but with fuel prices, maybe it's time. If the whole country could figure out how to decrease foreign oil demand by using domestic products we might have some effect on barrel prices.

Interesting. . Keep us informed if you would.

So when you said in your previous post about 0. 70$ a gallon, you mean they sell it that cheap?!?!?!!?

Maybe some of us intersted (Warren??) could get together and try this out. Maybe split the cost of the "stuff" to make it (ie, hot water heater, etc)???

I went to the dragstrip today as a last minute decision. to my surprise, There were 7 CTD's there!!! there was one (eric mills) running 14. 1, another (joes mobile lube) that ran 15 flat, and another truck claiming to do wheelies (jesse gulash) that ran 16. 87. There were a few others, but they were in the 17's and 18's. there was one there (Max Moya, used to work at trucks unique) that said he had a turbo from a "mack truck" on his?!?!?! I think hes full of it, because he seems to think a B-1 is a huge turbo.

I've almost got enough $$$ to get my clutch, then its turbo time!!!!!

I have to go tomorrow with my bro-in law to get his new (to him) powerstroke. He bought a 2000 F-350 dually 4-door, much to my dismay. :-laf j/k. Its a nice truck, has a 4" exhaust, B&W turnover, BD box thingy, etc. Its gonna be our new tire hauler truck.

Hope all you had a good weekend. glad were back on daylight savings time!

BTW: In two weekends is the 4x4 101 at Auges in belen.

Is anyone interested in a chapter meeting this Thursday at 11AM at Bea's-2 on Zuni (1 block S of Central, 1 block W of Wyoming)? I need to find out what I missed here in the big city while I was away in that Nevada hamlet :D

Shoot: I'll have to miss another meeting, gotta work that day. Gotta be a workin stiff to afford the trip to Denver for that "Virtigo" feeling Oo. Oo.

$. 70/gal is the cost to refine/cook used fryer oil. BlueSunOil makes theirs from new Canola oil grown around Alamosa CO. Cost at the pump is a little higher than D2 but I'm gonna pay it. I think I like it. I am feeling like the CTD is more responsive with it. Too bad I have to go to Durango to get it. I'm workin some of the stations around town here though. Heck the drive to Durango for it gets me to the mountains though :). I want to use the B20 at the pump a while and will work on building a still later. B20 is 20% bio/80% D2 so even if they don't sell it here in Farm yet, I can make a 30-40 gal batch of B100 and mix it with fuel from the pump. Warren the big sale for me so far is bio's increased lubrication qualities. I wish I lived closer to you so we could build one of these together but we can easily put our heads together here. It really doesn't seem very difficult to do. Once you get it running and a source of used frying oil, and a couple hours of your time will yield fuel at a premium cost, even if it only supplements pump bought stuff.

Hey Joe -

I wondered where Joe D had been! Thought you would have been back from LV long ago. Afraid I can't make it on thursday. My program is being reviewed "audited" that day. If something changes I'll be there.

Cool, you'd think the farmers would get off on this fuel big time. It supports agriculture and hopefully reduces fuel costs. Is there any long term test data? Any info about how this affects pumps, injectors etc?

If we keep eating at Bea's I bet we could buy their Sopaipilla oil!! My truck is from Saltillo Mexico. Seems appropriate.
