I was at the dealer yesterday getting the door lock solenoid replaced on the '05. While I was there, I made myself comfortable reading up on the '07s (they did not have any 6. 7s on the lot for me to "test" :-laf )

One accessory stuck out at me. It is a heater mechanism that runs on diesel fuel to prevent you from having to leave the Cummins idling in the winter to keep the cab warm. It said that you could set up to 3 start times per day for the heater. Warm cab in the winter anyone? I would guess it is similar to the Espar heaters.

It is not for me, but I thought I would pass it on. :)

If I'm reading you right, you're saying this is going to be a factory option? That would be very well received up here in Canada.

Actually, no, not a factory option, but an available Mopar accessory from dealers. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

In truly cold areas, I bet it would be nice! Oo.

hey Rashwor, thanks for the clarification. Do you remember what it was called / who makes it, so I could get my dealer to look into it? It sounds like it might be a cheaper / easier install than a generic Espar heater.

Thanks again

I got the mopar approved diesel-fired preheater installed on my 07 (5. 9l) when I bought it.

Its an espar/eberspächer unit I believe its the hydrionic 4. It has the mini-clock timer which allows 3 preset times for the heater to fire during the day (for me, morning, lunch time and end of work). The timer also energizes the climate control system so you can leave it on max heat/low blower so that you come to a warm cab when you get to your vehicle in the morning :D (my favorite feature!) The system has an automatic low voltage, low fuel and other safety shutdowns so you won't risk your batteries with it on. You can specify how long you want it to run up to 120mins.

The mopar kit has all the mounting brackets, new coolant hoses, fuel lines, custom bent exhaust pipe, and a new fuel pickup for the heater which gets mounted to the fuel tank. Also the system has a nice wiring harness setup which connects to the batteries and the climate system as well as the fuel level sender.

I've always wanted one of these on my 99 diesel suburban, so I jumped on it when I found out that they were mopar approved accessories. The system was $1695 installed at the dealer, but if you're handy, I've seen them for around $1100 for just the parts. Be warned though, the coolant line runs are rather tricky since they cross over from the right side of the vehicle to the left side of the vehicle. (The heater itself sits right next to the transfer case under the cab. )

Hope this helps. I'll see if I can find the mopar part number tomorrow and I'll post that to make it easier to locate.

i think it is the same one they have as an option on the sprinter vans... [don't know if it is a factory option or mopar accessory???]

The problem with espar... . is that they keep changing the kit or drop the number from the line... . I tried to order 3 different kits that were on the web sight only to find they were dropped from production and the web guy hadn't gotten to the web to correct it... .

At the time I called, last fall I wanted them for 3 customers... . I never filled the orders... .

I'm now doing the same thing again... . hoping this time to get somewhere... . I'm going to the web pages now... to see if they are the same kits I tried to purchase last fall... .

one more..

there's also Webasto Heaters. . i see lots of Webasto heaters on the big rigs lined up waiting to go into Syncrude Oil Refinery north of Ft. Mac in northern Alberta. Trucks sit out there for many hours waiting to drop or pickup summer and winter. Webasto are available at the Cummins store - I stand corrected it was Frieghtliner i saw them at a couple of summers back.

We tried to become a Webasto Dist... . their policy is to have one of your techs go to their training class (your expense) and you can only install, they do not allow you to sell over the counter, their equipment..... I have not heard of them being available across the counter at Cummins..... My inquire was over 2 years ago and it could be their program has changed... . but I'll see them next week in Vegas and find out... . (trade show) thanks for the input...

pretty sure I saw them at the Frieghtliner store. . P. S. I'm not advocating Webasto just that I see the system on lots of the big rigs up here. . I would probably go with Espar as lots of Cummins Dodges have them and the guys always take great joy in making me feel their heater hose after we've been sitting have coffee for an hour or so in the winter months. I want to get one too except its about $2500 CDN after all is said and done.

I hear a lot of complaints on Webastos up here in Alaska and very few complaints on Espars. The local dodge dealer installs webastos and works on just as many.

got an oil change this morning and checked on whether this is compatible with my 06...

It is. Mopar part number is 82209444AB. Officially called "Fuel-Operated Cabin Heater". .

List price was $1300. Dealer said they would sell and install for $1300 total...

Haven't made the decision yet, but thinking about it. .

I am pretty sure it is the webasto Blue Heat. These are offered on the European Mercedes vehicles. You can become a dealer for thier products. I have been talking with them for some time now. They now send a tech to your shop and train one of your people on how to install them. The catch is the units must be installed by your shop you just cant sell them over the counter ,and expect the guy buying to know how to install it. You must also buy six units before they will even talk to you. You must also provide two vehicles to do the install training on.

We have Espars on all our trucks and excavators except one has a Proheat. All the Espars work flawlessly but the Proheat needs regular maintainance. I had a Webasto years ago on a 93 KW and it seldom worked properly. I always thought of it as a poor boat anchor

That sounds like a good deal. . Does it come with the newest remote and the in cab timer set up... , like all the goodies?

The picture of the kit showed the heater itself and the in cab control looked like a small, t-shaped device on a coiled cord. Had 3-4 buttons on it and a small display...
