I recently have noticed a new noise, or I guess I should say a little more pronounced old noise. The noise is a vibration sound low frequency and very low pitch and only occurs with the clutch partially out and only when in reverse. I think it may be transmission related or maybe engine vibration related with just the right load placed on the engine causing it to vibrate, with the clutch fully out, no noise. It is most noticable when I have to back up a hill, no trailer, it occurs with the clutch partially let out, goes away with the clutch all the way out and then occurs again when I push the clutch in and continues for about 3 sec. after the clutch has been fully depressed. It never occurs when going forward. Clutch has been in the truck for about 20,000 miles, never slip, never even been hard on it, and the guy that installed it was excellent, a real perfectionist. Kinda aggravating but not bad is it anything or no biggie any ideas? jay

Jay, you remind me of me. I'm trying my best to resist the temptation to type "don't drive in reverse with the clutch partially out" to fix the problem. ;)

If the clutch is partially out in reverse that implies to me that you're just starting to back up and the engine is at low RPM. Under those conditions, I hesitate to ascribe any real significance to "weird" noises (especially vibrations and low-pitch noises) because the engine itself is transmitting a lot of vibration as it struggles to keep running under high power demand and low RPM.

I really doubt it's anything to be concerned with.
