okay on start up when the engine is cold and temps are in 30s/40s I get a squeel to a high pitch canary sound goes away usually in 5 minutes I tried to isolate the sound but the truck is just to noisy to isolate. so I'm guessing the best way is with a cold engine remove belt and check the idle bearing and the water pump see if there is any play. does the fan/clutch make the same sound or would I see a different issue if it was the fan/clutch. I know genos sells a dayco bearing its cheap and I checked the water pump on rockauto.com but what about cummins water pump should I look there first. I replaced my belt about 25k miles ago I guess it could be that but looks good. so tell me you thoughts or if you have a different way to trouble shoot this. my water pump is not leaking.

Probably the belt, but if not the power steering pump reservoir may be low & the squeeling may be air in the system.

thanks I will try this. if it is the water pump does anyone have a good water pump source? I do have a cummins close. is the pump a cummins or is it a bosch?

thanks for the input I will try this when it the next non rainy cold day. but not like the cold out your way. I was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood Mo. I will check my belt it is pretty new but its a cheapie belt.

Try flushing the power steering system/up grading to a synthetic.

I will try the power steering fluid idea I didnt think about the steering because it would make this noise at idle and not moving
