How do you get the Radio Out

Dodge dealers, Company reps???

My truck is only some 2 weeks old and I took a longer drive today in it and after about 1/2 hour the CD player just stopped ... ..... then started ... ..... then stopped... .

I stopped at a dealer thinking that they would just swap it out! I was told they have to remove the stereo and send it in for repair!!!! Has anybody here ever heard of such a thing? Before anyone asks they are store bought CDs, not burned ones as I know that the burned one's don't always work in all players. :{

That is nothing new to Dodge. Back about 7 years ago, my 98 ate up several am/fm/cd players and every time I took it in for service, I got it back without a radio. They removed mine and sent it in. About a week later, I would have to return for the "replacement" radio. For the record, I never got the same radio back as I marked the outer case. I was told that DC wont ship a radio to any dealer until they get the same model shipped to them. Sounds chezzy but my 97 Lincoln Mark 8 was the same way at the Lincoln dealer.

I was told the same thing on my old truck... 98 s10. When I went in to pick it up though, to my surprise, they had swapped it out for a new unit. (new remanufactured I'm sure. )

I had a similar issue. My RB4 Nav system wasn't picking up any satillites at all. Took it to the dealer and they told me that they had to send it in for repairs. My truck wasn't any older than two months. That answer didn't sit well with me at all. After several calls and emails to DC, they finally agreed to let the dealer swap a unit out of a new truck sitting in their lot and send my broke one to them.

OK so I am kinda gathering from this thread so far that MAYBE if I am lucky my dealer will swap it out for another new one BUT more than likely they will remove mine, send it in and they will PROBABLY receive a re-manufactured one to put back into my truck.

I had to have my radio replaced a couple of months ago. It took two weeks for them to get a new radio, but the swapped the defective one for a new one once it came in.

Jeff,

FWIW, my old Ford had the CD player quit in the first month I owned it and I had to drive around with a 4" x 6" hole in the dash for a month while they ordered and received a remanufactured unit from Ford (they had to ship mine in to get the unit replaced). The unit that came in looked fine and I never had another problem with it.

I will admit, though, when you pay 30 grand for a truck, it's hard to drive around with a hole in the dash!

BTW, did you stop by Melloy or Zangara? I've never been happy with the folks at Zangara. They've never treated me well (I bought my first Dodge from them). There's a reason (in my book) why they constantly make the papers with stories of how the "Attorney General accuses them of bad sales practices... " Melloy has been good to me.

Oh, well, not what you wanted to hear.

I stopped at Zangara, they told me to take it to the dealer where I bought it (closer to home) because all he could do would be to uninstall it and send it in. I was shocked and asked is that normal practice and would my dealer do that too? He said yes that is how they do it. I called my dealer this morning and was told it would have to be sent off. We are not talking about a sweet sounding sound system here!!! I bought a Pioneer system today, Boston Acoustics 6X9's for the front, and had MB Quart 5 1/4's from another sytem I had boxed up. I also have an external CD changer (Pioneer) that will interface with the tuner, and an MTX 100 watt amp. I put the tuner in and swapped out the speakers today. The doors come apart nicely, there are plastic hooks that enable the inside to lift up and off after removing the handle and screw(s). Much nicer than the buttons used in earlier years. I plan to put the amp under the driver's seat and the CD changer in the area under the center console if it will fit. :)

Oh well, it looks like you've got it figured out, then. Can't wait to hear it!

I've been toying with changing mine out (I used to have a great Blaupunkt system in my '97), but I mostly just listen to talk radio these days - I know, I'm becoming my father!

ooooo

Save me now while there's still time...

I kind of went the same route. I was installing my fuel pressure gauge and when hooking up the lights to the gauge, I sparked a wire (always disconnect the batteries, doh!) and blew a fuse to the radio. When I powered back up, my cd changer started eating itself and refused to work after that.

I decided to replace the whole unit with a Pioneer/Premier 860 that is mp3 and wma compatible. I had thought about a cd changer, but I can literally put a few hundred songs on 1 CD now so I have not pursued the changer. I also replaced all the speakers with Pioneer units. Very happy with the sound in the truck now. Good luck.
