Hey whats up everyone, just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions, my truck is a 99 quad 4x4 sb 24v auto, and i just installed an edge comp, and am putting guages in it tomorrow, (boost, trans temp, and egt) and i am wondering, what should i look out for while using this, how much can the transmission take, and what not, i'm also going to install dd3's soon, as soon as a guy quits lagging on me, i'm wondering, what should i expect, right now as far as i can tell i don't shoot out that much smoke, and i do have strait pipe already, and only a k&n drop in filter, and i put the boost elbow on the turbo, someone help me out thanks

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS

I am a shifty guy (6spd) but I am thinking that a comp and DD3's will kill that auto pretty darn quick, you might want to do some research on a major trans upgrade before the injectors go in. Most trans builders can set up a transmission with your hp goals in mind so that it performs correctly and for the long haul. Hit the search button on top and type in DTT or ATS or Suncoast or Georends that alone will give you enough reading. Sounds like you have some good plans for your truck enjoy.

Welcome to the forum Aaron

Ditto what Craig has to say. I think you'll find the trans and control of your right foot :D will be the first problems you encounter with the mods you have planned.

Good luck!

Hey Aron, The Comp alone can wipe the trans. Heck stock trucks can wipe a trans. I would keep the foot out of it (Or don't pierce the wire on the pump and use the EZ portion of the comp for now)

Once the trans is set ... . sky is the limit (Heck we have seen one truck put 887 RWHP thru a "Normally" beefed auto. )

The other thing. The good 'ol 99 VP44. It is notorious for being the weakest of the injection pumps... . pierce at will! The replacement pumps are a much newer revision and can withstand the abuse a bit better off but are not immune.

But I gotta stress that the Trans CAN be your friend ... . once built ;) Nothing sux more than doin all the mods to the truck and ya go for a one way test ride (Slow test ride at that cause you just are slippin' it until it pukes)

Uhhh Welcome aboard!? Sorry for the raincloud.

yeah i understand that my trans will probably go first, all i can say is with just the comp on my truck is a beast haha, but a friend of mine, had a whole lot of stuff done to his truck he had the edge comp stacked with the edge ez, a turbo upgrade built by bell turbo of stockton, and that lasted him close to a year, and he did pulls and other stuff on that stock transmission, then finally took a crap on him when he was in pismo. but i dunno if i'd get that lucky, umm what are some sites with some decently priced "good" transmission's i've found some but they are like ats bts, and run about 3500 is that a decent price, anyways, i'm kinda not use to this auto stuff haha, i had a few very fast cars in the past, twin turbo's and what not, but they were 5 sp's so it was different, anywyas thanks for the help so far

Aaron

how much would it be to upgrade the insides with good parts, because i know full transmission's are like 3500 but how much for just the insides that would take a lot...

Aaron

and some links with prices would be helpful haha

Your Torque Converter (TC) is your weakest link at this point in time. If it starts to shudder and throw clutch material, be guaranteed that it will take out your transmission. There are some that sell aftermarket TC's and valve bodys. At a minimum, you will need these. Most all of the major transmission aftermarket vendors sell upgrade kits. Do it now or do it later, your choice, but later may cost you a bundle.

okay i found some prices, from ats, good stuff right??? i found just a valve body is about $495 and a tc is $1370 is this all i would need to be safe? or would i need the new transmission because i understand that in the new transmission they upgrade the clutches along with other stuff, with just he valve body you keep your stock clutches?? and do these prices sound right, thanks

and i don't need the tc lockup controller do i? anyways thanks guys

I Love my ATS Stage IV, and they will sell you just a TC and a VB, however if you have a lot of miles on the truck, or if you are going to tow heavy or run high H. P. , then you'd best get the full package. And lets face it--YOU'LL HAVE MORE FUN THAT WAY!!

If your truck is relatively low miles, you can get by with just the TC & VB.

If you want their number its 800-949-6002

i've heard stage IV and stuff what does that mean, how much is a stage IV after hearing all this thats my next mod so i don't have to worry about it how much should i expect to pay for decent stuff, i'm probably going to end up with dd3's and an hx40 or maybe a little bigger, what should i go with?? thanks

Aaron,

Do yourself a favor and call Bill Kondolay and have a DTT transmission built for you. Bill can set it up for your intended HP and you'll be GOOD TO GO!

Don't forget about the Fuel Pressure guage. If I didn't have one in my setup, I KNOW I would have needed a new fuel injection pump by now. With the Comp alone, I was able to pull my pressure down to about 4 psi, which I didn't like. When I put the injectors in, I was able to reach 0 psi at WOT. Your transmission may inhibit you from getting the power to the ground, but without fuel, you aren't going anywhere either. I'm happy with the Autometer mechanical fuel pressure gauge in mine. Good luck.

Welcome!

Strongly recommend you NOT skimp on transmission. Who ever you choose to deal with, do a full upgrade. Just a Valve Body & Torque Converter has been proven to be a temporary and expensive (in the long run) way to go.

See www.dieseltrans.com. go to the forum section and read why not to do just a VB & TC.

Good Luck
