I have known for quite some time that GM seriously overstated the Duramax/Allison combos capabilities. It is a great truck for what I call "personal use". That is why my wife drives one:rolleyes: It rides the smoothest, it is quiet, it is loaded with luxury features and other than the diesel clatter, it has a gasser powerband.

When I bought the Chev, GM put out numbers showing that it had more towing capacity than the Ford PSD I was running. That was all fine and dandy until you actually tried to work it as hard. When you get near to or go over its GCVWR the truck is out of its element.

I have been really impressed by my PSD. I refuse to buy the new 6. 0L though. The new Dodge has almost 7,000 miles on it already. I love pulling with it and my drivers are raving about the pulling power of the Cummins.

The D-Max failed me again last week. Mass airflow sensor went out. Actually the hot wire was encrusted with hard water deposits because the airbox sucks through the fenderwell, NOT a good design. Upon installing the new sensor, the computer needed a re-flash. This fried the $1100 computer. Fortunately GM stepped up to the plate and did over $2000 in repairs for $100. Still, it will be out of its 100k engine warranty very soon and I don't trust it anymore.

Tomorrow I should have another '03 Dodge in my posession. This one is a QC shortbox SRW 3500 with the HO/48RE combo. This one will pull a little smaller trailer than the DRW. I will also use it for personal stuff. That is why I went with an SLT and the QC. I am looking forward to having another. I absolutely love this powertrain and it seems Dodge has finally stepped up to the plate and fixed the previous generations shortcomings.

Looking for new 2003 CTD HO

BHolm and anyone else in the midwest:

I'm looking for a 2003 2500 CTD HO QC LWB 8' bed or 2003 3500 QC LWB 8' bed SRW, with 48RE and 3. 73 RAxR, Laramie option. Prefer white. I've exhausted the sources in the western U. S. I can go anywhere in US and drive it home. Anyone have an suggestions as to a dealer that might have same on lot?

Thx.

Check out www.markroberts.com they have a pretty good online inventory, the price is right, and you can fly in and drive away. Great folks to deal with.

It's good to hear first hand many of the things about the D-Max I had suspected. I also wasn't willing to throw the dice on the new P-stroke. It seems Fomoco has really shot themselves in the foot with the 6. 0. Thanks for posting :)

JWChessell - I sent you a PM with potentially helpful info. Good luck!

BHolm - Congrats, and thanks for the honest, constructive feedback! Have fun!

JWChessel, I sent you a Private Message about a couple Idaho Dodge dealers having good or excellent inventories of 2003's.

Best Wishes,

There are two John Elway dealers south of Denver that had excellent inventories. If I remember correctly, they had a few of what you're looking for.

I aksed my dealer today when I picked up the new truck. They only found three SLT trucks with the HO auto combo. Two were QC shortbox's, one of which I bought and the other had a deal pending, and the third was a reg cab dually. There weren't any QC LB trucks in the five state area, MN, SD, ND, WI, IA. Good Luck with the search.
