Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) new owner needs improvements guidance

I am new to the Dodge diesel family, own a 2001, 2500 4x4. I bought it used about 6 mo ago, has about 38K miles. Am wondering about improvements. What improvements should I make? Which do you consider (a) imperitive (b) optional and (c) just plain cool to do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just how deep are your pockets? and how much do you want to spend on the how packages of extra stuff?

Change ALL the fluids every 30K and you can will it to your kids...

If you have one single ounce of performance blood in your veins, do GAUGES FIRST.



Cheap and easy: BHAF and take off the muffler.



Like to hear the turbo? Remove SR.



At the very least add an EZ-type box. You'll like the truck better all around and won't have to fool with the transmission.



Any more than that and we need to know how you are going to use it and how deep your pockets are.



Also, I highly recommend the cloth seatcovers available at Geno's.



Some folks sound insulate the cab, oilpan, and valve cover.

... and then you have the sportlight conversion, engine heaters, high-idle devices, 19. 5" tires, auto transmission upgrades...



But it doesn't NEED all that. We just can't leave well enough alone.

I agree, gauges first. Pyro, transmission temp if automatic, Fuel pressure and boost gauge. After that air intake, exhaust and Edge EZ. Regular service and oil changes will keep you having fun for a good long time.
