true love

heard fan today 1st time

Just purchased 97 3500 4x4. Please help.

1. Where to order GOOD service manual.

2. My truck stalls in reverse/ drive under load at idle condition. I have to use two foot drive techneque to compensate. ? I changed the fuel filter. Do injectors need replaced?

3. Truck seems low on power, I want to boost power after auto trans upgrade. Any recommendations on the sequence of mod's . i keep reading about a TST plate, GSk, Boost increase.

4. What brand gauges are recommended for pillar mtg. for Boost, trans temp and EGT?

5. Other than the water comming out of the A/C evaporator, water comming in from somewhere when it rains, Lose steering and a CD player that spits cd 5 times before playing this truck is great.

Oo.   Oo.

2. Check Idle speed. Should be 750 in gear with A/C running. Check Fuel pressure and check valve just before Injection pump. Check fuel return lines.

There is a good Cummins man in your area as well as Southeast Power which is just off I-4. I will try and find out from my son were he is and let you known.

with the auto your best bet for guages would be dual guages. westach makes some nice ones and there are a few digital brands that have duals. you should put in a Boost, EGT and trans temp minimum. if you dont go dual then boost & EGT and just keep your eye on the engine coolant gauge in the factory cluster. it will let you know when the transmission is sick.

upgrade in this order:

gauges

timing

plate/AFC spring kit

transmission

GSK

injectors

turbo

exhaust.

And I would suggest...

Rip the boot out between the inner fender and the air box.

3000 RPM GSK

Torque Converter & Valve Body mods

plate

turbo housing

injectors

For the low power problem, before you spend big bux on a modification, check to make sure that the throttle linkage rod is in proper adjustment. Over time, vibration causes the jam nuts that keep it aligned and adjusted to loosen. The most likely result is that the injector pump isn't getting fully engaged. If it's really bad, the rod falls off, and your engine drops to idle.

I discovered the adjustment problem two weeks ago, towing up the Black Canyon Grade. All I could manage was 50 MPH, foot jammed onto the floor mashing the carpet, where I normally could do 65. Figuring out the probvlem and making a roiadside fix took about an hou, with a pair of vise grips, and 10 mm and 11 mm end wrenches.

The adjustment is clearly illustrated in the Dodge TSM. It's about $90. BUY IT.

Thanks Matt

My dad's truck is like yours but an auto, and I couldn't keep it over 80 foot in the firewall-nor would it downshift. I'm going to look at that linkage first.
